Today’s marks the fourth day in Door County. The weather is rather cloudy so we decided it would be a day of hanging out in the trees or at wineries. Now I’m not a wine person, I more enjoy a good cold glass of hard cider or beer. But since I’m basically dragging my mom to the zip line course, I agreed to take samples of wine around Door County.
Ziplining
The first thing we did was make a reservation at Lakeshore Adventures to go ziplining in the afternoon. My mom decided she wanted to sit this adventure out, so my sister and us went with out her. The team was great. We got hooked into our little harness that act as seats as we rode down the line. Reminded me a lot of a high ropes course I used to do in girl scouts. There were four ziplines in total. Three of them were connected, but the last one was separated as it was the race course.
There were a few different ways you could go down the course: tucked in like a ball for speed, no arms to glide at a slower speed, or holding onto your straps. And of course there’s the matter of how you go off the platform. I switched it up on different ones. On the first I jumped off, the second I sat back and soared, the third I walked off, and on the last one I ran so I could win the race.
It was really nice that this course had automatic brakes so you didn’t have to worry about failing to hit the brakes in time especially if you are going really fast. I’ve heard some hand brakes are really hard to stop too. So we relaxed and enjoyed our rides from one platform to the other.
The key to winning the race in the end
- Run off the platform once the countdown reaches zero.
- Tuck in like a little ball.
- When you’ve a clear win as the other person did not do this, celebrate by stretching out when you hit the automatic brakes.
Winery Tour
When ziplining was complete, we promised our mom that we would go enjoy the wine at various locations around the county. Unfortunately due to the time our reservation was at for ziplining this meant there was only one winery that had a guided tour left for the day, which is one of the largest Wisconsin producers of wine located inside of an 1868 schoolhouse and features 45 fruit, varietal-fruit blend, and premium grape wines.
So we managed to get over to Door Peninsula Winery before the tour begin. It was approximately twenty minutes long and cost $3 per person over the age of 16. Most of their process was automated but it was still fascinating to see the process. After we went to the wine tasting room, where for another $3 you could try 6-8 wines including their specialty of fruit wines like cherry, plum, apple, and pear. I definitely discovered I liked sweet, white wines over the red, dry wines I tried. The most expensive wine were the oaked wines and were $26, the rest ranged from $9.99 – $15.99.
