The Kardashians really love their jumpsuits, and they sure know how to wear them. But, if you don’t want to be associated with anything remotely “Kardashian”, how about Jessica Alba? She is another jumpsuit lover among the celebrities, right beside Rihanna and Emma Stone. Jumpsuits can look glorious, but they can be completely wrong. Here are the 5 golden rules to follow when trying to pull off a cute onesie.
It Cannot Work Without Some Waist
There is something absolutely gorgeous and feminine about a jumpsuit, but for it to work, you need to show off some waist. The entire jumpsuit means a lot of textile on you, so it needs to be broken down a bit. The best way to do it is to make it tight around your waist. Once you do that, it will show off your curves while looking very chic. If the piece itself doesn’t have a belt, you can experiment with some good, elegant belts yourself.
Not Too Loose, Not Too Tight
Again, this is a matter of balancing the fabric used. If you make your jumpsuit too tight, it will basically become a catsuit. First of all, jumpsuits are designed to cover your body and wrap around it loosely. If you pick one that is too tight, it will look like you bought it at the kids’ department. A garment that is too loose, on the other hand, will look like you draped yourself in sheets.
Be Careful with Colors and Patterns
Only solid colors and minimalist patterns should be chosen in this case. When you are wearing your jumpsuit, it means that you will be covered with it from your shoulders to your knees, at least. That is a lot of fabric. Now imagine that amount of fabric in a bright or crazy color or pattern. Nobody can pull that off. Nobody should even try unless they are going to a costume party.
Don’t Mess Up the Length
Do not attempt to wear a long, sweeping jumpsuit if you are a petite woman. That much canvas will fail to compliment your lovely build and it will swallow you up completely. This elegant style is reserved for the very tall ladies with long legs. They can sport it perfectly. Preferably with a deep cleavage to balance out the amount of fabric. For all the others, the jumpsuit should reach somewhere between the knees and the ankles. If you want to experiment with the cuts and the lengths, better opt for some gorgeous playsuits instead.
Accessorize to Match the Occasion
One of the best things about the jumpsuits is their versatility. You can use them as everyday wear, for some elegant and formal occasions or even for a day in the office, if the cut is right. In more than one example, this can all be pulled off with only one jumpsuit. A classical cut in black or navy can take you a long way. You just need to accessorize properly. Wear them with summer style platforms and a beach bag and you are off for a cup of coffee with your friends. Replace your jewelry with some chunky, gold statement necklace and matching bracelets, with a pair of stilettos on your feet and you are ready for a fancy dinner. Proper accessorizing always does the trick.
Properly chosen and worn jumpsuit can be very flattering for your figure and you can wear it for any occasion. Not to mention that great feeling of not having to worry about matching your top with your pants. Still, make sure you choose a good piece or it won’t work its magic. Moreover, if you cannot find a model that fits you, head to a seamstress and design one yourself.
