2018 is going to be a fantastic year for all home decor enthusiasts.

Why is that, you ask?

Well, we are less than a month into this year and industry leading interior designers have already come out with their ideas of what trends we can expect in 2018. Spoiler alert, they are all awesome. From embracing the imperfections to the natural wood elements, the interior design industry is really stepping up their game. But let’s take a more detailed look at these trends, so that you too can decorate your home in the latest fashion.

Natural materials

Natural materials have never gone out of fashion, but this year they are going to be featured much more heavily in households all around the world. This trend is riding on the popularity of the organic design movement, which glorifies the beauty of natural and raw materials. Lava rocks are a great example of a natural material that is certainly going to see a lot of use in 2018, as well as unrefined wood. Both of these materials can be used to create pieces of furniture or small decorative items.

Warm tones

While in the past years, we have seen the rise of clean and washed-out colours, it seems that 2018 is going to be the polar opposite. Experts predict that warmer and rich tones like burgundy reds and swamp greens are going to be the most sought after colours. But don’t be mistaken, the minimalist layout of the Scandinavian home design is still going to remain popular. It will just have more earthy colours, rather than pale greys and whites.

The art of Wabi-Sabi

Wabi-Sabi is a Japanese philosophy that teaches us to embrace the imperfections. This means that all the cracks in your walls, scratches on the floor, dents in your furniture, and so on should be left as they are. This may sound like a lazy person’s trend, but that’s not the case at all. While yes, Wabi-Sabi embraces the imperfections, it doesn’t teach having clothes and garbage lying around your home. So, to sum it up, clean the floor and furniture, but don’t bother fixing small imperfections. Instead, accept them as a metaphor for life.

Monochrome interiors

From the trends listed so far, one may think that 2018 is abandoning the minimalist interior design. Fortunately, that is not entirely true. Sure, we will see a lot more details, colours, and depth in interior design, but lovers of minimalism are getting a new trend in this year as well. Monochrome interiors will certainly be popular with the minimalist crowd. Designing an interior with just different shades of one colour helps you give a lighter and simpler look to your rooms – the dream of every minimalist.

Embracing nature

Another trend that coincides with the organic design movement is making use of nature in your interior. Having a couple of potted plants in the corners of your home just isn’t enough anymore. If this trend is going to become popular in 2018, then we will see vertical green wall designs on the outside and on the inside, small indoor gardens, and so on. Simply put, nature is going to enter our homes in more ways than just in pots and vases.

Of course, many other home decor trends will be popular among interior designers, but these five are without a doubt at the top of the list. Regardless of whether you are looking to freshen up your living room with warmer colours or to create a more organic feel with unrefined wood and green walls, you won’t be out of fashion in 2018.
