90’s Book Tag (Music Edition)

I was not tagged to do this, but I saw it on Ellie’s blog Read to Ramble, and I really wanted to do it myself. One, as I was born in the 90’s. Two, quarantine has unleashed my book addiction and has temporarily replaced my video game and makeup addicted self as you can probably tell from the change in direction of my blog lately. This tag was created by Jemma from What Reading Does and Milly from A Books Neverland. Now, onto this tag!

The Questions

1. What’s My Age Again – Blink 182 (What age did you discover your love for reading?)

I hated reading growing up. Mainly as I couldn’t spell to save my life, so reading was a challenge as I didn’t know most of the words. Kind of like Feyre during the first challenge in A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. Maybe not that bad, but it was a STRUGGLE. So, I didn’t get into reading until middle school around the age of 13 or 14 when I discovered The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis and A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. But it didn’t become an addiction or what it is today until I was about 17, and started volunteering in my local library.

2. All Star – Smash Mouth (What is your favorite Genre?)

I love reading Young Adult Fantasy books. I may be 27 at the time of doing this tag, but I still find myself going to the young adult section for fantasy novels rather than going over to the adult section.

3. Breakfast at Tiffany’s – Deep Blue Something (What is your go to reading snack / drink? or just your favorite?)

I don’t eat or drink while I’m reading. I completely forget about my drink if I’m reading. But my favorite in general is Dr. Pepper.

4. Give It Away – Red Hot Chili Peppers (What book do you ALWAYS recommend to people?)

Right now I would have to say any of Sarah J. Maas book series as I cannot get enough of them. While they don’t have the greatest diversity and LGBTQ+ representation in them, I still really enjoyed them as they resonated with me on a mental health and toxic relationship standpoint.

5. …Baby One More Time – Britney Spears (A book or series you have read more than once?)

Besides the Sarah J. Maas series which I have read half a dozen times in the last two months. I would have to go with The Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare. It was the first book series that I actually picked up to re-read. Even in high school when I was OBSESSED with Twilight by Stephenie Meyer, I never re-read the books. But The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, and The Dark Artifices I have read each at least six times.

6. Tearin’ Up My Heart – Nsync (A book that broke your heart to finish?)

I’m picking two different books for this one as they broke my heart for different reasons.

1. Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas. I went into a massive reading slump after finishing the Throne of Glass series. Not to mention that book was a rollercoaster of emotions, and not everyone makes it out of war alive but my goodness the ones that don’t make it I got very teary eyed over.
2. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I bawled when I got to the end of this book. I was not expecting that ending, I didn’t think it was going to end on a happy note since it deals with cancer. But I didn’t think it would take the turn it did.

7. Crush – Jennifer Paige (Your first bookish crush?)

Since we’re talking about first bookish crush that would be Edward Cullen from the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer. I loved him as a teenager… now I see his problematic ways but I still hold he’s better than Jacob Black. I will at some point read Midnight Sun which is Twilight from Edward’s POV, but it might not be for a while as I have other books that need to be read. And I read the first two hundred pages when Stephenie posted them years ago on her website. It’s probably changed since then, but I’m not in any rush because of that.

If we’re talking about current bookish crushes. That would be: Rhysand (A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas), Azriel (A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas), Cardan Greenbriar (The Folk of the Air by Holly Black), Rowan Whitethorn (Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas), Will Herondale (The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare), and Dorian Havilliard (Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas).

8. Smells Like Teen Spirit – Nirvana (A book you read as teen that you still love today?)

Vampire Diaries by L. J. Smith. Though I have not technically finished the last set of books in the series (which was ghost written, rather than by the original author as the previous books), I still love that world. Mainly as it still lives on through one of my favorite TV Shows: The Vampire Diaries (no longer on air), The Originals (no longer on air), and Legacies.
