Now one brand I have always wanted to try but never have is Anastasia Beverly Hills. If you’ve been reading my blog of awhile or even within the last month, you’ll know I’ve been finding dupes for their eyeshadow palettes. Though I still have the real ones on my wishlist. And well the dream to try the palettes has come true… I get to try my sister’s ABH palettes. She only got three of the palettes so I’m going to review each of these separately since she’s so nicely letting me try them. And depending on my opinion by the end of these reviews. I’m either going to actually get all of the palettes or some of them depending on my findings. I know a lot of people online have given some of the palettes raving reviews and others total flops (hint, hint Subculture). So for the first review we’re going to be dipping into the Norvina palette, which is the newest palette Anastasia Beverly Hills has come out with.

Norvina is the daughter of the owner for ABH so this is basically her go-to fourteen shades that are in the purple, lilac, to pink color range. This is not something I often reach towards so I most likely won’t be getting this palette myself. But this is my sister’s all-time favorite color, so I’m not even surprised she got this palette as her first mid-range or high-end palette. Norvina describes this palette as:

I have always wanted to create a palette that embodies my spirit. I’m a dreamer at heart and get lost in my own fantasy world daily. It’s a whimsical place that leaves you feeling carefree. If I had to explain how these colors made me feel, I would say “happy”.

Similar to other ABH palettes this one costs $42 with each shade containing 0.02 oz of product. Which is a pretty standard amount for eyeshadow in a pan. Like their other palettes it includes a double-ended brush, velvet packaging, and a large mirror. The palette is laid out with the metallics or duo-chrome shades on the top row and the matte shades on the bottom. Going from lightest on one side to darkest of the other instead of mixing the tones around in the palette. It looks aesthetically pleasing, though one could also argue it doesn’t show off the range the best.

Another thing to note is the velvet packaging is not going to stay clean and nice forever. It’s going to grab any fall out and cling to it. So while it looks stunning all together, it’s going to get grimy and gross not too long afterwards. With no way to really clean off the packaging. So if you don’t like palettes looking dirty, this isn’t the packaging for you. So either depot it, don’t get it, or deal with it.

• Celestial (duo-chrome plum w/ a violet shift)
• Volatile (matte warm charcoal)
• Dazzling (duo-chrome cool-tone bronze w/ a violet shift)
• Eccentric (matte dark burnt orange)
• Drama (duo-chrome aubergine w/ a cool bronze shift)
• Passion (matte deep garnet)

Thoughts on the Formula

Since this is the first time I’ve ever touched an ABH palette. I find the formula quite interesting. There is a lot of kick back in the pan, but the shadows are extremely pigmented. Dreamer in particular is very crumbly in the pan as in it just falls apart but on the lids it is very easy to work with. But it’s a little annoying that the shadow falls apart within the pan so you have to press it back into place unless you want a mess the next time you open the palette. The other metallic shades I did not see that same behavior. I do have to say the metallic shadows are very buttery to the touch which I love in a metallic. Word of advice, do not apply with a finger it sticks to your finger and doesn’t pass over to your lids. Which is something different for me when applying a metallic. But that’s just the formula, so I’m not going to fault it for needing a different type of application.

Overall, I love the formula of this palette. And though at first looking at the palette I thought it would be out of my realm of eyeshadows, but honestly after trying it I want this palette myself. As I felt really cute in this eyeshadow look that I created for this post. I would wear this to work or around the town. Which I didn’t think I would feel in this palette since it’s so different to all of my other palettes. And I loved that!
