Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Wish on Shooting Stars

I’ve been playing a lot of Animal Crossing New Horizons like 115+ hours of it, and the other night I had a meteor shower. I’ve been trying not to make a post about literally everything in the game, but I was in a mood to make one for this event since it’s a rare material needed for wands and celestial items.

So, to get these to start appearing in the game (they might have spawned before but I didn’t notice them), you need to be visited by Blathers’ sister Celeste. She’ll also give you the recipe for the Star wand, which is a tool that allows you to change outfits without having to carry around all of the clothes in your inventory. Every night after that you spot her on the island, she’ll usually give you another recipe. Typically one dealing with a Zodiac.

Now once, you’ve talked to Celeste you will hear a jingle. This is your clue to tilt the camera upwards on the right analogue stick then press A while the star is in the sky. You cannot have anything in your hands at the time. Or nothing will happen. Usually a star is followed by one or two additional ones, so keep looking up until you get them all.

Here’s a short video of what it will look like if you successfully wished on the shooting star:

If you successfully wish upon a star in New Horizons, make sure you visit the beaches on your island. Along the shores of your island, you should find a fallen Star fragment, which could be one of three types:

  1. Large star fragments
  2. Zodiac (constellation based) star fragments
  3. Star fragments

These materials will always appear on your beach the day after you’ve wished upon a shooting star. Make sure you check your beach thoroughly, because there might be quite a few Star fragments waiting for you if you made a lot of wishes. If it’s during a meteor shower, you’ll get a lot of these along your shores. So, keep checking back until they stop spawning. The constellation is dependent on what time of the year it currently is in your game, it does not matter which hemisphere you are in.

Here are dates for when each zodiac sign is active:

  • Capricorn – December 22nd to January 19th
  • Aquarius – January 20th to February 18th
  • Pisces – February 19th to March 20th
  • Aries – March 21st to April 19th
  • Taurus – April 20th to May 20th
  • Gemini – May 21st to June 20th
  • Cancer – June 21st to July 22nd
  • Leo – July 23rd to August 22nd
  • Virgo – August 23rd to September 22nd
  • Libra – September 23rd to October 22nd
  • Scorpio – October 23rd to November 21st
