I thought it was only right after discussing the book series that I frequently return to, that I mention the ones that I loved reading but never re-read. There’s no reason why I didn’t for any of these. And all of these I have kept the books in my personal library through many moves even though I haven’t touched some of these series in years.
The Vampire Diaries
This series I never actually got around to finishing (though I’m 99.9% sure I have all the books), or at least the ones that were ghost written. The series that were written by L. J. Smith, I did finish. This is a world of a human that falls in love with a vampire… and his brother. I loved the original story, and ended up obsessing over the TV series with it’s spin-offs (Originals and Legacies) even though they are two completely different stories. Let me know if you would be interested in a comparing the books to the show, similar to how I did that with The Mortal Instruments.
Midnighters
Now this series should technically not be on this list, as I just started re-reading it. But considering I haven’t finished yet I felt it was only right to mention this series somewhere. It’s a trilogy written by Scott Westerfeld after a group of teenagers who experience an extra hour of their day every night. Each of them have a special ability/talent that help them survive the secret hour.
Vampire Academy
This series by Richelle Mead is about vampires that go to a secret academy to learn about their society. Rose Hathaway is a dhampir (mix of human and vampire) that is sworn to protect Lissa Dragomir, a vampire princess who is next in line for the throne. They must fight against the Strigoi (deadliest of the vampires) and those that would like to use Lissa’s healing abilities for their own personal gain.
Uglies
Another series from Scott Westerfeld. This story takes place in a society where perfection is not just something that is admired but enforced. All children on their sixteenth birthday undergo an operation that transforms all of their imperfections. Tally’s friend decides to run away and Tally is given the ultimatum of find her friend and bring her back, or never be turned pretty herself. Of course, Tally learns far more of this adventure than she thought she would and ends up becoming a key part of a revolution.
Inkheart
A story by Cornelia Funke in which characters can come to life out of storybooks if their stories are read out loud. However, there is a catch to this. For anything that is brought out of the book, something else must go in. The series is named after the book that was read from that the father, Mo, discovered this ability from.
House of Night
Another series about vampires, this one was written by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast. In this world, vampires spelt vampyres, are marked. If they do not go to the school called House of Night soon after they are marked (a crescent moon tattoo that appears on their forehead that later fills in during the Change), they die. Even then that is not a guarantee that they will survive into becoming an adult vampyre, as many do not survive the Change. And some are granted gifts by the goddess Nyx. Zoey Redbird not only becomes marked, but she discovers she’s been granted abilities unlike any fledging before. It’s an interesting series that takes a different perspective on vampires, and I liked that teenagers acted like well teenagers.
Fallen
Last up in the list is Fallen by Lauren Kate. This is a fantasy/romance novel following Lucinda (Luce) Price going to a reform school after a mysterious fire killed a fellow classmate. She soon becomes infatuated with a boy named Daniel Grigori, who turns out to be an angel that has been in love with her since the dawn of creation. Only she doesn’t know that they’ve both been cursed for this. She has to regain her memories and learn about the past in order to free them from the endless cycle of Luce dying in a pillar of fire, and Daniel being left behind only to repeat the same thing every seventeen years.

I read and loved both of the Scott Westerfeld series. I kept meaning to read his other ones but never got around to them. I loved the Charlie Bone series when I was younger and today I was thinking I wanted to reread them.

Same. When I moved, I donated a bunch of books (mainly ones I never read or didn’t find enjoyment out of) but there were a bunch I didn’t get rid of since I loved them the one time I read them.

Yeah, House of Night first books were good and I couldn’t put them down then the later ones I just never got around to and lost interest in continuing. Though I would still say on a whole I loved the series.

I think some series just come at an age or a time where you are in the perfect mindset to read them or even identify with characters in them; Your life moves on but obviously theirs can’t so you move past them.
