ColourPop x Zoella Brunch Date Collection Review & Swatches

One collection that ColourPop released that I initially was going to do a hard pass on was the Zoella Brunch Date collection. One, I’m just not a massive Zoella fan anymore after all the scandals and just grew out of her channel on YouTube. And two, it just isn’t that exciting. But as you can guess by the title, I ended up getting a good chunk of the collection. The only things from the collection I skipped on were the lip liners, blush, and highlighter as I don’t use lip liners and don’t need any more of the other two items.

Supernova Shadows

This collection launched with two new supernova shadows which I love to incorporate into any glam look whether that’s graphic liner, inner corner highlight or a base for the metallic tones I’m going to have on my lids. Like most of the items in this collection the color palette is very basic but I would say these supernova shadows were missing from the overall collection. Each one costs $7 for 4.7g (0.17oz) of product. The shades that were included in this collection were:

  • OG, a golden champagne sprinkled with silver glitter
  • Bellini, a metallic rose gold

These do look very similar with the small difference of OG coming across a bit more like glitter, while Bellini shows off the metallic finish more. Otherwise they are almost identical if you are looking at them from far away.

Ultra Matte Lip

Ever since they reformulated their ultra matte lip, I wear this formula on an almost daily basis. To the point where I’m debating on just going down to these since they are super affordable at $6.50 for 3.2g (0.11oz) of product. They are lightweight, pigmented throughout the day, and typically very transfer resist. The shades that were included in this collection were:

  • Self Love Club, a true red
  • @ Me, a dusty pink mauve
  • Little One, a dusty nude

Creme Gel Liner

I love ColourPop’s gel liners, if I’m going to put something in my waterline that’s comfortable and last all day. I don’t use these on top of my lids as I prefer a liquid liner for that. Each liner costs $5 for 0.2 g (0.007 oz) of product and it is retractable. Sometimes I do have an issue with these liners break in the tube, but that’s common for most retractable liners. The shades included in this collection were:

  • XOXO, a pearlized black
  • Sincerely Yours, a pearlized chocolate brown

I wish these were like the other ColourPop Gel Creme Liners that have the color on the end of the tube so you know which one you’re reaching for. As these ones look identical so it makes me not grab them as often as the other ones including Swerve (the matte black liner) or Stomper (the matte chocolate brown). Plus they don’t look very pearlized so they end up looking almost identical to the matte versions ColourPop previously released.

Brunch Date Palette

Last up in the collection and the main attraction is the palette. Now this palette isn’t anything special besides some super cute packaging. It’s sleek with a variety of neutral tone with a mixture of matte and metallic shadows. Along with that single pop of blue. There are 12 shades in total each with 1.0 g (0.42 oz) of product, and a mirror bringing the palette to a total of $18. Shades in the palette are as followed, swatched in the opposite order:

  • Champagne Toast: soft golden champagne
  • Pancakes Please: antique bronze
  • French Toast: rich burgundy brown
  • Skinny Latte: bright rose gold with silver flecks/metallic
  • Cinnamon Sugar: bright copper
  • Mimosa: rusty terracotta
  • Maple Syrup: warm caramel
  • Sundae Funday: electric pink copper
  • Sunny Side Up: soft pink peach
  • Americano: deep cool-toned brown
  • Brunch Club: vivid cobalt blue
  • Extra Slice: deep chocolate brown with gold & pink glitter

I found the blue shade Brunch Club was slightly patchy, which I found odd for ColourPop as I never have that issue when it comes to ColourPop shadows. I also wish that Mimosa was a bright orange shade since terracotta just doesn’t say Mimosa to me. I get that it’s a transition shade to tie in all of the metallics but still I think it would give the palette more interest if it was a bright yellow orange. The other shades I don’t have a problem with (not that I had issues with Mimosa when it comes to working with it on the eyes) since this is a nice neutral palette.

I can see a lot of people enjoying the tones of shadows for their every day looks. For a breakfast palette, I do think it does fit the theme really well. And the packaging is cute and different for ColourPop. From the longer shape to the two heart shapes pans. As for the shades sure I wish there was a red for strawberry, a bright yellow orange or yellow to tie in more of the breakfast theme rather than just the one blue (which can get pretty patchy) for blueberries. Plus I think a lot of people would look at this palette differently online, since Instagram is over neutral palettes more or less. However, the average consumer is still all for it.

I’m going to be sharing in a few days three looks one palette using the ColourPop x Zoella Brunch Date Palette. And I might start a Makeup 101 series where I break down how to do specific looks, I’m still not 100% if I’m going to do that. But I think it would be a bit of fun to do. Let me know if there are any specific things you want to see a in depth post on.

As for the collection, do I think it’s needed? No, it’s a basic collection. Most of the products ColourPop has something similar on already. Or you probably already have in your collection. But do I enjoy it? Yes. I can get the blue shade to work with my patience pants on and when I’m getting ready for work I love a neutral palette. Especially if it has a mirror. I’m probably going to get the most use out of the lipsticks and the supernova shadows.

Love ya,

I think these products got some unfair criticism, and are actually some of Zoe’s better products! x

Agreed these aren’t that bad, maybe a little basic but I still enjoy them a lot.

Your product photos are stunning! It’s a shame that the blue was a bit patchy as it’s the most exciting shade in the palette but I’m glad you were able to make it work. I think this would be a great collection for someone new to makeup or who prefers neutrals. The packaging is so cute! I don’t think I’ll be picking anything up but I can see the appeal.
