One of my favorite things to do in Undertale at the start of a new game was to input the names of the characters as each had a secret message or phrase afterwards. Most of which you weren’t allowed to continue moving forward with including: Sans, Papyrus, and Undyne. Each message came in the text pattern of the character you were trying to name your character after. If you chose Chara, you got the message “The True Name.” It was a fun little Easter egg. So in the new game from Toby Fox called Deltarune I thought I would give it a shot and see what happened.
There are two name options presented in Deltarune. One for creating the vessel and the other for the creator. None of the names prevent you from selecting that name other than Gaster. As that name does weird things similar to how Gaster was in the original game. By being somewhere out of the game but still in it through his followers and secret room that can only be accessed by inputed the room manually outside of the game. Each the vessel and creator have different results:
- Gaster: When entered under vessel will cause the game to immediately restart. When entered as the creator will cause the game to completely crash.
- Sans: When entered under vessel you get the message “An Interesting Coincidence,” and when entered as the creator you will get the message “How interesting.”
- Papyrus: When entered under vessel you get the message “An Interesting Coincidence,” and when entered as the creator you will get the message “How interesting.”
- Alphys: When entered under vessel you get the message “An Interesting Coincidence,” and when entered as the creator you will get the message “How interesting.”
- Undyne: When entered under vessel you get the message “An Interesting Coincidence,” and when entered as the creator you will get the message “How interesting.”
- Asriel: When entered under vessel you get the message “An Interesting Coincidence,” and when entered as the creator you will get the message “How interesting.”
- Asgore: When entered under vessel you get the message “An Interesting Coincidence,” and when entered as the creator you will get the message “How interesting.”
- Toriel: When entered under vessel you get the message “An Interesting Coincidence,” and when entered as the creator you will get the message “How interesting.”
- Berdly: When entered under vessel you get the message “An Interesting Coincidence,” and when entered as the creator you will get the message “How interesting.”
- Kris: When entered under vessel you get the message “An Interesting Coincidence.” However unlike everyone else, if entered as the creator you get the message “You are about to meet someone. Very, very wonderful.”
- Susie: When entered under vessel you get the message “An Interesting Coincidence.” However unlike everyone else, if entered as the creator you get the message “You are about to meet someone. Very, very wonderful.”
- Noelle: You get the default response one vessel but as creator you get the same message Kris and Susie get: “You are about to meet someone. Very, very wonderful.”
- Chara: Unfortunately has no effect.
- Frisk: Unfortunately has no effect.
- Flowey: Unfortunately has no effect.
- Lightener: Unfortunately has no effect.
- Lancer: Unfortunately has no effect.
- Ralesi: Unfortunately has no effect.
If you input the same name twice you get the following result:
Those are the only ones I tested out, I find it interesting Noelle has a response more so than Ralesi or Lancer does considering her character is only shown for a few moments in the intro of the game. I wonder if she’ll have more interaction later in the game.
