In the last installment of my Disney series we explored Easter Eggs and in this installment we’re going to connect The Little Mermaid to Hercules and Frozen. One of them is a definite connection while the other is more of a fan theory. Since there are is nothing in either movie that really calls to the other, but it’s easy to draw the connection between the two.
Family Connection – The Little Mermaid & Hercules
These movies are connected because Hercules
and Ariel from The Little Mermaid are relatives. In Greek mythology, Triton is the messenger of the sea, and the son of Poseidon and Amphitrite. Poseidon is the brother of Zeus, who is the father of Hercules. Thus making Ariel and Hercules 1st cousins once removed.
Easter Egg – The Little Mermaid & Frozen
This one is more of a fan theory which is why I didn’t include it in the Easter Egg installment. During The Little Mermaid, Ariel goes into a shipwreck during one of the first scenes of the movie. Ariel is treasure hunting with Flounder rather than singing for her father with her sisters. If you look at the ship shown on the left from The Little Mermaid to the ship on the right from Frozen and they look very similar. Considering the ship sank with the King and Queen on their way to a coronation, it’s pretty safe to say this ship just might be the one that appears in The Little Mermaid. The Little Mermaid is a Danish story written by Hans Christian Andersen and their is a Little Mermaid statue in Copenhagen. Based off the architecture and fashion of Arendelle, it can be assumed this land is located in Norway, while Corona is in Germany. So the King and Queen of Arendelle would’ve gotten shipwrecked somewhere near the seas of Denmark where The Little Mermaid takes place.
What do you think? Just a coincidence or rather a most likely story? I’ll go more into the ties between Frozen and Tangled in my next installment of the Disney series.
