Is COVER FX Gripping + Firming Primer Worth the Hype?

Last week I had a decent reaction to expired primer that I had been using on a very regular basis before hand, but it expired way before it was supposed to but I was near the end of that primer anyways. And honestly, I didn’t think that was the best one in the world but used it as I had it. So post-reaction, I got rid of it and instead picked up the Cover FX Gripping + Firming Primer as I have heard nothing but good things and it sold out the first time around. So the second launch of it, I figured I might as well put it to the test to see if it’s worth the hype.

According to Cover FX this is a jelly texture primer that is supposed to firm your skin, create a glass-like finish, and grip makeup for all-day wear. It’s also supposed to make foundation application better along with extending the wear time on any skin type. All this for $38 and only 1.0 fl oz of product with a use by date of 12 months. Oh and have some anti-aging properties to help reduce fine lines and improve skin clarity. So there is some skin care aspect to this primer.

The packaging of this primer is very minimal and sleek. At the same time they released this primer they also launched a Dewy + Hydrating, Mattifying + Acne Treatment, and Water Cloud + Pollution & Blue Light Defense Primers all at the same price point. I did not get these but I would be lying if I didn’t say I was tempted to go for the Water Cloud primer. At the time I’m writing this each of these four primers have a five star rating on Ulta’s website with 20 or so votes each. But considering how much these are, I can’t go out and purchase any of the other primers at this time to try out. So I just went with the one that sold out right away and I’ve seen mentioned on multiple Beauty YouTube channels such as Tati.

I have been trying out this primer with several of my foundations so see just how they would play with each other. Those foundations being ColourPop No Filter Liquid Foundation, Tarte Face Tape Foundation, and NYX Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Foundation. Initially when you apply the primer to the face it’s insanely tacky. Which is the gripping aspect of the primer so it takes a bit to get used to. However, after applying foundation you don’t have that sticky feeling anymore and I didn’t have any issues with blending out my foundations. And my makeup lasts all day long even the ones that I normally see start to fade or wear after eleven to twelve hours of wear. I have yet to try this with the ColourPop No Filter Stick Foundation, but I’ll be insanely curious to see how that wears since on it’s own I never saw it making past the eight to nine hour mark.

It’s still too soon to state anything about the firming or anti-aging claims and I probably won’t notice that until many months down the line. But I’m not going to hold off forever on reviewing the product on the primer aspect just because of that. If you would like me to revisit any products months to a year after use let me know, I can always go back through my collection and do an update on any of the products.

So is it worth the hype? I really enjoyed it so if you’re in need of a new primer or your primer doesn’t really do it for you this one is a good option. Plus it’s vegan, cruelty free, talc free, paraben free, fragrance free, mineral oil free, gluten free, Alkyl sulfate free, and phthalate free.

Cover FX makes great primers! I have their blurring primer that I got in a Boxycharm and I really like it. This one sounds really interesting with the gripping/tackiness, and if it extends the wear of your foundation then I’m all for it. Great review!

Yeah I was unsure of it at first but I really like it. Plus it’s made most of the foundations I’ve worn with it last longer.
