Ok when I was making this year’s editorial calendar, I put in a bunch of “Let’s Talk About…” with no specific topics for that day as I wanted them to be on the spot where I write them with everything that literally flows into my mind. And today I want to talk about Life Out of Order. This is something I’ve joked about with my mom a lot as growing up I went through school being an honor student with all these plans on how my life would play out… In fact, here’s the exact list and dates I assumed everything would happen:
- Age 18 – Graduate high school and begin college
- Age 21 – Graduate with my bachelor degree and start my Master’s degree, living on my own
- Age 24 – Graduate with master’s degree
- Age 25 – Be working full time in career field
- Age 30 – Be married
- Age 35 – Have at least one child
And so one and so forth. Funny thing about life is, it doesn’t care about your plans and can happen in literally any order. Here’s how mine’s gone:
- Age 18 – Graduate high school and begin college
- Age 20 – Drop out of Bachelor degree program, move back in with parents, start Associate degree program with plans for Bachelor, and got a dog named Pixie
- Age 21 – Started working fully time
- Age 22 – Graduate with Associate degree, did not pursue Bachelor, and moved out with friends
- Age 23 – Almost go bankrupt and had to get 2nd job just to struggle to get to next paycheck.
Not the order I was planning on or how I remotely saw myself in the future. I could add on all the things I would like to do in the future, but the way life’s gone so far I’m done planning. It’s not going to happen in the order I plan for it, so why worry about a plan anymore? That doesn’t mean there aren’t things I would like to achieve and do, but I’m only going to take it a day at a time and hope things just fall into place at this point. And even though things are tight, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.
Ever had life go out of order for you or plans fall through? Let me know how you dealt with it as I would love to hear how you got through it.
