Before we get into the review of LipSense by SeneGence Long Lasting Liquid Lip Color in Mulled Wine, I do want to clearly state I did receive this product for free from Sarah Pikus of Lip Love MN. This is a vegan/cruelty-free brand I never heard of before receiving Sarah Pikus’ email. And I am so glad she reached out to me to try this product. I will be purchasing some more shades (they have 80 shades currently) in the future as these are amazing! And I’m not just saying that because I received the shade Mulled Wine for free, I’m saying this because I genuinely love this product.
About LipSense
One thing I saw when I started researching this product (just doing a little homework before I got the product in the mail), that most people talking about this product were consultations or distributors of the product. Because the only way to get these are by ordering through a distributor. So I wasn’t really sure what to think, especially with their claim that it is waterproof, kiss proof, smear proof, rub proof, and budge proof; doesn’t not dry out your lips; and lasts 18 hours. Sounded way to good to be true if I’m being perfectly honest.
A tube of 0.25 fl oz for long lasting lip color is $25, which is not the most expensive thing in the world but it’s up there. Add on that you need the LipSense Gloss which is $20 for 0.25 fl oz. As a comparison a Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick which has 0.19 fl oz is $18. So you get more product and it is more resilient (more on the resilience in the test result section).
Key Ingredients and Benefits
“LipSense Long-Lasting Liquid Lip Color is made of a combination of ingredients. Here are a few key components:
Denatured Alcohol: used as a delivery system for the color technology; creates a germ and bacteria-free environment.
Paeonia Suffruticosa Root (Tree Peony) Extract: a natural calming plum flower herb.
Hypericum Perforatum (St. John’s Wort) Extract: also known as St John’s Wort, a natural herb used to elavate mood and treat depressions.
Tilia Cordata (Linden) Flower Extract: a natural flower extract rich in flavonoids and a powerful anti-oxidant.
Isodonis Japonicus Extract: Fragrant plant extract that contains terpenes, shown to have medicinal properties to soothe skin.
Mica: an earth mineral used to give products sparkle and shine.
Titanium Dioxide: an inert earth mineral used as a thickening ingredient and sunscreen in cosmetics. It protects skin from UVA and UVB radiation and is considered to have no risk of skin irritation.
Note: Just as important as what is in LipSense, is what is not! LipSense is formulated with no wax, lead, or animal by-products.”
Application Process
Now this is not a one swipe and you’re done liquid lipstick. This does require a few steps and layers of the product but there is a reason for that, which I’ll get into in a moment. You have to apply three layers of the long lasting lip color, waiting three seconds in between layers and topping it off with one of their glosses (glossy, matte, pearl, or glitter finish). If you don’t do this then your lips will stick together as if there is glue. Trust me, put on the damn gloss. Whatever one you choose.
So why three layers? That’s a thought I had when first applying the lipstick. So I looked it up on their website to see what what the reason and it makes sense after reading it. It’s like a color changing liquid lipstick more or less because you breaks down your pH level to produce the shade.
“1st layer: touches the skin’s pH and will begin to break down first and fastest.
2nd layer: protected from the bottom, away from the skin’s pH, by the first layer.
3rd layer: protects the second layer from the top down and prevents sheering of second layer of color by keeping away friction, saliva, and the natural environment. The third layer breaks down just like the first layer, but from the top down. The second layer is sandwiched between the first and third and is protected by both for the longest period of use.
Glossing: It is important to know the long-lasting properties of LipSense are enhanced by any of the LipSense moisturizing glosses. The gloss products also help to keep the lips moist and plump.”
Test Results
So as I stated in the beginning of the post, I mentioned that I was skeptical about this product. Which meant that I wanted to put it through literally every test possible. From eating oily or greasy food, kissing, shower to test the waterproof claim, and rubbing my lips like crazy.
So one of the true test of lipsticks is to eat or drink anything and see how bad the product transfer. Though the claim is it doesn’t transfer, I wasn’t sure if that was honestly true. So I ordered a small extra cheesy pizza from Domino’s and a Cocoa-cola (not sponsored by either of these companies). And even after eating half the pizza and drinking the coke there was no transfer onto the food, drink, or napkins. So that claim held up.
Now for kissing test, I don’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend but I do work at a pet hotel where I love to get kisses from and give kisses to the dogs. Most lipsticks or liquid lipsticks I wear end up transferring to the fur of the dogs leaving me to spend a few minutes to rub it off. Or I have lipstick smeared all over my face from them kissing me. Which leaves me most days either not wearing anything on my lips when going to the hotel or avoiding kisses. So kiss proof, that would be the dream! I worked for six hours at the hotel over the weekend on one of the days where I was testing the lip color. And the lip color stayed put. No product on their fur and no loss of products from my lips. Which is amazing!
Next I went to test the waterproof claim when I got home from the pet hotel by taking a shower. Mainly because I needed to get clean after the pet hotel and to get Pixie to stop shunning me because I smelt like other dogs. So I left the lip color on before getting into the shower. I did see some product come off, but for the most part you would not be able to tell I had even been in the shower and got the lip color wet.
For rub/smear proof, I spent a good part of the day just touching or rubbing my lips to see if anything came off. And of course like all the other claims, nothing transferred! It stayed proof.
Now this next one isn’t a test, it’s a note. What do you think might be the one downside to a waterproof, smear/rub proof liquid lipstick? Removal. Now this is honestly not a huge negative for me but it is something to note. You need to use a cleansing oil in order to use. SeneGence does have a Ooops! Remover that helps out with the removal of the color, and costs $10. You just rub it onto your lips then wipe it away. But you do have to do some pretty seriously rubbing in order to fully remove it, if you’ve recently put the gloss on. If you’ve worked away the gloss with greasy food or drinks, then removal is a lot easier. They do offer LipSense Collection, for $55 which has the gloss, oops! remover, and long lasting lip color.
The color did last the full 18 hours if you reapply the gloss throughout the day, if not it lasts a lot less time. And I found it crumpled away. But apply some gloss and it sticks around for a lot longer. So make sure you bring the gloss with you when you step out of your house for the day so the color can last a long time!

Overall Thoughts
I am seriously in love with this product and I have a list of colors I want to order, that I’m going to get over time. Plus this is the perfect date night lip product if you are in a relationship, because it will stay put through making out and eating. What’s better than that? No having to touch up the lip color or awkward kiss stains from you. I would highly recommend this product, I’m not just saying that because I got it for free. I’m saying it because this is an amazing product. So thank you Sarah Pikus for introducing and sending this to me, I sincerely appreciate it!
