Makeup Comparison: NYX vs. Tarte Brow Pomade

On YouTube I’ve seen a lot of videos where people do comparisons by doing one product or look on one side and the exact opposite on the other. So I wanted to started a new series that I’m going to do every few weeks where I do a makeup comparison. For the first one, I decided to take similar products from two of my favorite brands and put them to the test against each other. Plus I want to switch up my brow routine every now and then, because as much as I love the Wunderbrow I think variety is generally a good thing. So I picked up NYX Tame & Frame Tinted Brow Pomande in Expresso and Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Brow Mousse in Rich Brown. Which are very close in color and formula.

First Impressions

Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Brow Mousse

Tarte is one of my favorite brands of all time that’s mid-priced range, but I have never tried their brow products. So during my Ulta haul that I published on my YouTube channel I got both of these products. This product has 0.12 oz of product and a bamboo brow brush that costs $29 together. Which considering the brand and that you get a nice brush this it, is a pretty good deal. I have a hard time deciding what color I want my brows to me since I dyed my hair red and now wine color back in May. But this is typically the shade I reach for so I figured Rich Brown would be the closest to what I normally use in Wunderbrow. Overall I thought the brow mousse was alright to work with, but you have to build it up if there’s any residue from your foundation. And I did give my foundation plenty of time to dry before doing my brows, but it’s just something to note.

NYX Tame & Frame Tinted Brow Pomade

I love NYX products, probably a good 1/3 if not 1/2 of my makeup collection is NYX, they are the best drugstore brand that’s cruelty free as they just have so much to offer. And I’ve hardly had any products that were flat out misses. Which I can’t say about most brands at the drugstore. And even some mid to high end ones. So while I was shopping at Ulta.com I decided that I would try out their brow pomade and compare it to the one from Tarte that I already had in my shopping bag. The shade I grabbed was espresso which is the second darkest shade next to black. This product retails for $6.99 at Ulta and has 0.18 oz. So it has more product than the Tarte brow mousse. But the expiration date once opened is 6 months. Whereas the tarte is 12 months. Though I typically never remember or listen to that and have things sitting in my collection way past that date. Overall, I found this product super easy to work with and it worked like a charm to create my brow. Though I don’t have it anymore, I used to use Benefit Cosmetics Ka-Brow prior to going cruelty free and I remember it was very similar to how this applied. So I’m super happy! As I can use this on the days between reapplying the Wunderbrow or instead of. Which is great since this is cheaper. Does that mean I don’t like the Tarte brow mousse or Wunderbrow, no. I’m just saying cost wise this is more efficient and easier on the budget. So I would choose this over those when restocking my brow products if they run out. But since you hardly make a dent in either while applying it to the brow, they will last a long time. Hell, both will probably dry up before I ever hit pan.

Have you tried either of these products? What did you think of them? If not, what brow product is your ride or die?
