Makeup Launches That Didn’t Go Over Well

Brands release new products all of the time, and sometimes they don’t go over so well. Other times they go down in flames, which is what we’re focusing on today. This is not anything against the brands as I do enjoy a fair amount of these brands and some of the products I’m mentioning in the post I don’t have problems with personally.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Palette

Now I love this palette and don’t have issues with it, but I got the palette over after year from when it was first launched. But the main problems with the palette were it’s very powdery, hard to blend, and shadows not sticking to the eye.

NikkieTutorials x Too Faced Power of Makeup Palette

The eyeshadow that customers received were incredibly different from what influencers and NikkieTutorials showed in their reviews. So instead of pigmentation and easy to blend, the shadows were anything but that. Not to mention there was a terrible contract with NikkieTutorials, and almost all of the blame went onto Too Faced rather than the influencer.

Jaclyn Cosmetics Lipsticks

This is everywhere at the moment, Jaclyn Hill released her own brand after six years of teasing it. And it failed out of the gate. There were air bubbles, hairs, fuzz, sweat marks, and other imperfections including beading from unblended product. Pretty much every lipstick had terrible quality and blame seems to be thrown all over the place including rushed production, white fabric gloves, and more. And last I saw most individuals are not hearing back from the brand since they received their product.

Crayola Makeup

This was a great concept but had terrible execution. It was expensive makeup that was cheaper in quality than things you could get in Claire’s (and some of Claire’s makeup has absetos). Products broke instantly or wouldn’t show up on the skin at all.

Kylie Skin

Walnut scrub causes major issues with your skin including making it worse over time including micro-tears in the skin that can lead to irritation, inflammation, and possibly even infection according to some experts. Not to mention, Kylie in the promotion of the skin care line only showed the product off with a filter over her face. So it appears she doesn’t even want to use it.

Tarte Shape Tape Foundation

This foundation line had the worst skin range ever and while they did make it larger over time, it was still an insult as there were only two darker shades. Especially compared to Fenty Beauty that released that same year with the new standard for foundation range. Another thing is they came out with Face Tape a year later after discontinuing Shape Tape foundation, stating “You asked we listened” but it’s still a bit too late.

Morphe x Jaclyn Hill Vault Collection

This collection included four eyeshadow palettes. I don’t have issues with mine and often still reach for these when I’m going to do an eyeshadow look. However, other individuals who got their eyeshadow had chalky and inconsistent formula that resulted in patchy shadows. Morphe recalled the first launch then released it not even a few months later. Which according to most brand owners that spoke up about this is not enough time to correct the formulation of an entire line. And people still found issues with their palettes, but it has remained as is since then.

These are just a few launches that come to mind when I think of makeup launches hated upon release to public consumption. What launches do you think ended in epic disaster or didn’t live up to the hype they received prior to people getting their hands on the product?
