For the last week, I’ve been working from home for work. So far, I’ve been loving it. I am a service manager for a company that works with hospitals around the world on various cloud platform software. I’ve been at this company for years, and used to work every day in downtown Minneapolis. Until the company decided to redo things, and sent pretty much everyone home to work with a small office still in downtown Minneapolis that we can work at from time to time. I have yet to go in there, but if I do they allow dogs. So, I might at some point bring her with me down there. I’m not sure yet. But anyways, I wanted to go over my essentials for when I’m working from home.

Post-It Notes
I love me a good sticky note, and have no joke four pads of post-it notes sitting on my desk at all times with various pens sitting out for easy use. I mainly use them to jolt down a quick note while in a meeting or phone call to make sure nothing gets forgotten.
Playlist
I cannot sit in the quiet. I never have even when I used to work in the office. I always had headphones on me, to put on some background noise. It makes it so much easier for me to not get distracted by everything going on around me, so I can concentrate on what needs to get done. Of course, I do mute the music whenever I have to take a call or hop on a meeting. I usually have a playlist I called “relaxing” going on my iTunes.
Whiteboard
My calendar whiteboard is my personal assistant, I don’t know how I would manage without it. I’ve always had one to note down important dates from meetings to go-lives to projects to appointments. And since taking work home, it has become even more used since I moved it over to my desk area. On the side, I keep a to-do list of things that need to get done around the apartment that week as well so I don’t forget anything.
Something to Drink
I’m terrible at drinking water, I just don’t like the taste of it. But I can’t get through the day without something to drink, I just constantly need something to sip on. Since having my wisdom teeth removed, this has largely been Gatorade as I can’t have pop (Dr. Pepper). Yes, it’s not the healthiest but it’s better than Dr. Pepper if we’re looking at the nutrition facts on the bottle. Plus, it’s good for electrolytes which is something I need. Weirdly enough, I haven’t had any caffeine withdrawals as I normally do when I switch off of pop so that’s nice. I am looking into other alternatives for my daily beverage consumption, if you have any recommendations that are not pop or just plain water let me know in the comments.
Loungewear
I love being comfy when I’m sitting at my desk. I have worn business causal clothes to work for years, and now I don’t really have to. I still force myself to get dressed every day to get me in the right mindset. But, I’m wearing lounge pants, cardigans, and sweaters.
