I love body painting. It’s been something that I’ve gotten better at over the course of the last year to two years. And that’s mainly been due to practicing and doing a different look every single week. I would say at this point I primarily only reach for my makeup when I’m doing a body paint look. I still do daily makeup when I know I’m going to be on a video conference call or leaving my apartment, but that’s pretty minimal. I don’t really do the full glam thing anymore or test out a bunch of products like I used to prior to the pandemic. My habits around makeup have completely changed. So, I thought I would discuss the products I typically use for body painting since it usually ends up being the same things I reach for every time.
Body Paints

I use two different brands for the most part when reaching for body paint: Mehron Makeup’s Paradise Paints and Madeyewlook Body Paint. Though primarily I use Madeyewlook body paint unless I’m looking for a specific color that I’m not in the mood to figure out how to blend to achieve. Both of these are water-activated body paints, which make them easy to work with without having to set the paint or needing to fix mistakes. Also, it helps blend the colors together while they are on the skin to get a seamless blend.
Eyeshadow Palettes
There are four eyeshadow palettes that I typically reach for all from NYX Professional Makeup:
- Swear By It
- Escape Artist
- Ultimate Utopia
- Modern Dreamer
Each of these palettes has 40 shades. A lot of these shadows have reached pan from the amount of time that I use them in body paints. I originally got these palettes back in my glam days, and rarely if ever used them but now they are my go-to palettes. If for some reason, I can’t find a shade in those palettes then I reach for one of the other ones in my collection. But it’s very rare that I end up reaching for something other than these four palettes.
Other Products
Now I could list these ones out in categories like the other two, but it’s one for each of them. I don’t mix them around with multiple different things, I always end up using the same thing time and time again. I have purchased and gone through these so many times I would love to see a stat someday of how many I actually went through due to these looks. Those products are:
- Mascara: Essence Volume Stylist Curl & Hold Mascara.
- Eyeliner: NYX Professional Makeup Epic Ink Liner in Black and Epic Wear Liquid Liner in White.
- False Lashes: Azeredo Cosmetics, usually in the style Hollywood.
- Lash Glue: Duo Brush-On Adhesive with Vitamins.
- Highlighter: Black Moon Cosmetics Moonlighter in Centipede.
- Lipstick: NYX Shine Loud High Shine Lip Color (though this could be different depending on the look, but for the most part this is what I’m reaching for).
- Brushes: e.l.f. Cosmetics, Morphe, ColourPop, and Madeyewlook for makeup-related items but I use craft paint brushes for the actual paint.
Blush, bronzer/contour, and the rest really just depend on what the look calls for. But I don’t really have a set thing I reach for. Most of the time, looks don’t involve the use of them which is why I’m not including them in this list.
I think that about covers it for what I use while body painting at the moment. It will probably expand in the future, but I’ve been able to create so many different looks from creepy to cute using these products that I’m not sure what I would change. Though if one of the NYX Shadow palettes runs out and I can’t repurchase it, I’ll have to start looking into some alternatives in the future.
Love ya,
