The first time JKissa collaborated with e.l.f. I missed out as it was constantly out of stock whenever I tried to get it. So, this time I did not want to miss out with the To the Rescue Eyeshadow Palette. That is not the only thing that came with this collection. There was also a furever eyeshadow brush set (I love e.l.f. brushes and they make up the majority of brushes I own/use), and Tsuki To My Heart Eyeshadow Topper Duo. I’m not going to be focused on those two items from this collection in this review, but I did get both in addition to the palette.
Packaging and Palette Overview
This palette contains 18 shadows, 12 matte and 6 metallic, with a net weight of 0.52 oz (15 g) for $20. The packaging is a plastic with a mirror on the inside. Initially when you get the palette, the outside is all white with just e.l.f x Jkissa logo. But when you open the palette, there is a sticker sheet so you can decorate the outside however you want. You can see from some of the pictures how I decided to decorate my palette.
I wanted to create my version of a perfect rainbow palette. If you love color like me, or are just trying out color I think there is something in here for every makeup lover!
JKissa
One thing I find extremely interesting about this palette is how it has a vegan formula and is completely eye safe. Meaning no shadow in this palette is a pressed pigment.

How to Use (According to e.l.f.)
- Apply a light shade all over the eyelid with an eyeshadow brush.
- Apply a medium complementary shade in the crease of the eye, and blend out to contour.
- Then apply the darkest shade along the lash line in outer corners of the eyes for added depth and a smoky effect.
- For a metallic effect, apply shimmer eyeshadows with a damp brush.
Controversy
I haven’t done a review in a while, so excuse me if this is all over the place. Normally I don’t mention controversy but I felt like this one was warranted. This palette was released one or two days before June, which is pride month. Typically companies always have their cash grabs for June with rainbow palettes. Though I don’t think that was the intention of this palette, since they are doing a donation (For every submission, e.l.f. will donate $1) towards Animal City Pits with an Instagram hashtag #eyeslipsfacepaws.
Some are angry at how it’s not towards LGBTQ+ community. Not that they own the rainbow. And honestly, I watch JKissa for her use of colorful makeup. So, this palette is totally something I can see her coming out with.
Thoughts on the Palette
I have been using this palette for the last week or so since it arrived in the mail, and honestly I love it. It’s your typical bright rainbow palette. Most of the shades are more grungy which I find more wearable while still giving off that rainbow look.
The shades have good pigmentation that depending on the brush you use can either be full pigmentation right away or built up to the desired amount. Which surprised me, but considering it’s been years since I had any shadows from e.l.f. they have improved things quite a lot.
I didn’t have any issues with blending when it came to these shadows. And there isn’t a lot of fallout from the shades. There is some if you don’t tap the brush to remove the excess. But it’s nothing you can’t easy clean up. Plus, I normally do eyes first before the rest of my face.
Without a primer (just using light concealer over the lids), I did notice that these shadows crease and fade. But when I used the Urban Decay Eden Primer Potion, I did not experience this issue with the shadows. And they lasted for hours at that point, so I would recommend using this palette with a primer.
I also seriously love how the top row is slightly lighter than the middle row and then you have a completely matching shimmer in the bottom row. So, you can make any look you want. Versus other rainbow palettes where the yellow is shimmer/metallic but the red is matte. Or some other combination of a mixture of formulas that you may not want for a particular look.
