My Thoughts on Moon Touched (Zodiac Wolves: The Lost Pack, Book 1) by Elizabeth Briggs

I first saw Moon Touched by Elizabeth Briggs on TikTok. Someone shared a quote from the book and I was like “ok that looks interesting, I should check it out.” Not really having much to go on other than that one quote. And after reading the summary on Amazon, I decided to read the book on Kindle. This is the first book in the Zodiac Wolves: The Lost Pack trilogy. And so far, it’s the only book of the series released with the next one coming out in November. Normally, I shelve those books until the full series is released. But I couldn’t resist starting this one.

Synopsis

My fated mate rejected me—and now I’ve been captured by someone even worse.

As the half-human outcast of the Cancer pack, I’ve been beaten and bullied my whole life. Gaining my wolf form and my fated mate is my only chance to change packs and hope for a better life.

Except when my fated mate is revealed, he’s the future alpha of the Leo pack—our worst enemies. He rejects me in front of everyone, just before the Leos slaughter my entire pack and murder my family.

I manage to escape, but then I’m kidnapped by a far greater threat: the alpha of the mysterious lost pack. The 13th sign was banished from the Zodiac Wolves years ago, and I thought they were just a myth.

They’re real. They’re holding me captive. And the dark, dangerous alpha is offering me something I can’t refuse—revenge.

My Thoughts on Moon Touched

Moon Touched is told from the 1st person perspective of Ayla, a half-human half-wolf shifter that is considered an outcast by her pack because she was born outside of the stars of Cancer. She also doesn’t have the ability of her pack to summon crab-like armor for protection. Not to mention she’s the result of an affair her father, the Alpha of the pack, had with a human. She’s spent her entire life being hated by everyone around her. Save for her brother, Wesley, and best friend, Mira. Even then they tell her not to make a scene or make herself noticeable as the entire pack hates her. The only thing she’s looking forward to is a ritual called Convergence that will allow her to fully shift and a potential to find a fated mate that will take her away from the Cancer pack. Or at the very least away from her father.

I won’t share too many spoilers for the book, other than what’s in the summary.

Ayla is drawn immediately to a mysterious wolf that doesn’t appear to be part of the twelve-packs aligned with the Sun Witches. She runs across him in the forest while avoiding her pack before the ritual, and there was an immediate connection between the two. At that point, not a lot had been discussed about the mating bond, so I was like “oh he’s her mate” and completely forgot about the fact that the summary states her fated mate rejects her. So, when the ritual happens and her mate ends up being the alpha heir for Leo (sworn enemy of the Cancer pack), I was like “this has to be a trick.” But no, they are bonded by the Sun Witches. And Jordan, her mate, rejects her mid-ritual but the bond doesn’t disappear. So, while Leo kills everyone in the Cancer pack, Jordan can’t kill his own mate. Which allows her to flee. Also, she learns she has the ability to hop between patches of moonlight.

This leads Ayla to another pack that was allied with Cancer pack; however, they refuse to help her escape the Leo pack. Which results in the thirteenth pack, Ophiuchus the Serpent Bearers, kidnaping her. Or rather capture and rescue her. Their alpha, Kaden, is the one Ayla ran into before Convergence. And the spark between them is still very much there. They end up offering Ayla the chance to join their outcast pack if she proves trustworthy, trains and works for them including agreeing to be used as bait to destroy the Leo pack. Since Jordan will come for his mate whether he wants her or not, the bond will keep pulling them together.

However, it’s not something Ayla wants. Though the bond is there, her interests shift to another individual. And I’m pretty sure her mate bond was messed with by the Sun Witches. As we learn they aren’t exactly as Ayla has been taught. There is no moon curse, and wolf shifters should be able to change since they were toddlers. The Sun Witches lock that away. So, who’s to say they aren’t also in charge of forcing bonds where they shouldn’t be?

Overall, I would give Moon Touched by Elizabeth Briggs a 3.75 out of 5 stars. I couldn’t put this book down. I stayed up late reading this book and revisited sections of it because I really enjoyed the book. I already pre-ordered the second book in the trilogy and can’t wait to see what happens next with Ayla. Especially with the way the book ended. I have a feeling there’s a lot more to learn about the Zodiac packs and their history with the Sun Witches. Since they are not as they first appeared to be. Not to mention, what other things was she lied to about in regards to them. She doesn’t have much knowledge of packs, since she was treated like an outcast her entire life. And she’s still learning her wolf form since it’s not something she grew up with like the thirteenth pack.
