Storybook Cosmetics Wizardry & Witchcraft Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

There’s a brand out there I have wanted to try for ages solely on the fact that their branding is so on point. Every palette they have come out with are styled like a storybook, which I think is amazing. The very first palette they came out with was inspired by Harry Potter but due to copyright they named it Wizardry and Witchcraft.

In this palette you get 12 shadows each with 0.043 oz product for $55. You have a mixture of matte, metallic and pearl finishes that have a buttery smooth formula. On one half of the palette you get a full-sized mirror. Reminds me of the Lorac Beauty & the Beast palette which had a similar style. The Storybook Cosmetics Wizardry and Witchcraft were first released for for pre-sale in February 2017. While the Lorac Beauty & The Beast palette came out in June 2017. So there was four months in between the release of the two palettes, it is entirely possible Lorac was inspired by Storybook Cosmetics on the storybook style palette… which Storybook Cosmetics is working on getting a patent for that design.

Overall Thoughts

While I love the storybook style palette it is very bulky so you wouldn’t travel with this palette. I would’ve loved if it was a bit thinner since the pans don’t go all of the way to the other side, plus the mirror is on ‘cover’ side of the palette. Now the aesthetic is amazing, but it’s just a little awkward to hold while applying the shadows due to the size. So you would want to set the palette down, but you wouldn’t want to do that if you are using the mirror in the palette.

As for the formula I’m going to break it down by the finishes. The matte shades I did notice quite a bit of kick back in the pan but had no issue with pigmentation or blending on my eyes. There was one shade (Broomstick) that I saw didn’t stick to one part of my lid initially but I’m more leaning towards the brush being the issue on that one since once I switched to my blending brush, it blended into that patch seamlessly. The pearl and metallic pigments were gorgeous to play with and as described by Storybook Cosmetics applied like butter. I didn’t notice any weirdness, kickback, or crumbing with the pigments as I dipped into the palette with a brush or my finger. Sometimes I do notice that with metallic shades, but didn’t experience that with this formula from Storybook Cosmetics.

Overall, I really like the palette but probably wouldn’t reach for it often mainly due to the size of it and more would keep it as a collector’s item. But this palette, is actually my sister’s and she was kind enough to let me borrow it for this review. I did wear it a few days and did find the formula to be long lasting without fade or creasing on my lids. And while I would be happy with paying that price for a collector’s palette, I do think it’s a bit up there in price and I could make something similar using individual shadows I already have from ColourPop. But it wouldn’t be as buttery that way, while I love ColourPop shadows their shades just aren’t as buttery to the touch as the Storybook Cosmetics one.

Have you tried this palette or anything from Storybook Cosmetics? If so, what is your opinion on it?
