Style on Focus: Preppy

The next style on focus is the preppy fashion style. Which is a mixture of that upper class and private school looks. Complete with collared t-shirts possibly with puff or long sleeves, a-line skirts, headbands, and just overall expensive looking features. But a border of classy, rich, and intellectual. Think Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl.

Typically the outfits come from retailers or designers like Louis Vuitton, Coco Chanel, Ralph Lauren, and Vineyard Vines. Typically the outfits from there would consist of the colors pinks, yellow, and blue. Sometimes even with a cute tie and knee high socks.

If you are wearing a tartan skirt (a staple in this style), don’t mix colors. Make sure your socks and skirt are matching. For example, do not wear a red tartan skirt and then wear blue tartan socks. This will destroy your preppy image and the feel of being educated will go flying out the window. The most common seen preppy skirt is the very versatile short pleated mini and these do look stunning with knee high socks and the correct style of top to go with it.

Another staple in this style is white tennis sneakers or loafers. Or top siders which are perfect for the summer or on any boat. Speaking of boats, a lot of outfits of the prep style have some sort of nautical twist to them.

Lastly for makeup and hair, everything is perfectly groomed. Ideally a good complexion to start with helps as you will not need such a range of make-up items such as concealer and foundation. Most makeup tones will include pastels and neutral colors. These have a cute and intellectual look to them and do not come over as brash or cheap which the preppy girl most definitely is not! Keep it simple.

What style do you navigate towards? Or how do you incorporate the preppy style into your wardrobe?

Love ya,
