During the course of the game Subnautica, you will come across the story of the Degasi. Either starting out by going to Emissary Jochi Khasar or the floating island, either one is your main starting point for their story. Depending on which you go to first. This was the ship that crashed on Planet 4546B prior to the Aurora during a detour, that had a six person crew and there were only three survivors (Paul Torgal, Bart Torgal, and Marguerit Maida) after being shot down by the Precursor Quarantine Containment Unit.
They scrapped down the remains of the Degasi and constructed seabases located on the Floating Island. After storms started they moved under the water to the Jellyshroom Cave. The bacteria started to take effect and Bart detected something deeper below the surface and they moved to the Deep Grand Reef (directly below the Floating Island). As Bart was researching a cure for the bacteria, Maida would bring back fuana for research. Typically they were dead but one day she brought back a reaper leviathan that ended up being their doom. Bart managed to get away, Paul died in the habit in the Deep Grand Reef, and Maida died fighting the reaper.
Bart went back to the Floating Island and later died from the bacteria. The final PDA entry from Bart Torgal ended up being the cinematic trailer for Subnautica.
A decade later Emissary Jochi Khasar boarded the Aurora in search for the missing crew of the Degasi who’s last coordinates were by planet 4546B. When Aurora took a slingshot maneuver around the planet, they were shot down similarly to the Degasi. Luckily due to the secondary mission, every thing needed to survive was aboard the Aurora so you’re character will be able to discover what happened and be able to leave the planet.
Mission brief:
A Mongolian vessel, the ‘Degasi’, disappeared almost a decade ago, carrying with it a high ranking Mongolian chief. Corporate insurance has purchased passage aboard the Aurora for Emissary Khasar, and your orders are to make every reasonable effort to locate and retrieve the Degasi crewmembers, without compromising the primary mission. Confirming the fate of the crew will aid Alterra’s diplomatic efforts with the Mongolian councils.
Mission Details:
- Aurora is due to perform a slingshot maneuver around 4546B (category 3 ocean planet) approximately 13 months post-launch
- This will bring the ship within range of the Degasi’s last known position
- Additional aquatic and all-terrain vehicles have been included in the Aurora’s cargo package for this mission
- Degasi crew manifesto has been distributed to senior employees in a separate message

Incorrect. Marguerit survived the Reaper Attack, while Paul Torgal died and Bart Torgal died from the Kharaa.

Yeah, that wasn’t really revealed though until Below Zero. But you are correct, she did survive.

C O O L you are wrong Paul Torgal died from supposed asphyxiation or got eaten by one of the crab squids in the grand reef.
YOU ARE ALL WRONG I READ THE MESSAGES it goes like they start in the floating island then there’s a storm and move to the jellyshroom cave but marguerit wanted to go deeper and then bart said they were infected and then Paul recorded his message Paul died from O² and marguerit was alive (still in BZ stayed safe) and bart got back to the floating island but died by the infection THE END
