My Thoughts on the Crowns of Nyaxia (Nightborn Duet) by Carissa Broadbent

Carissa Broadbent's The Crowns of Nyaxia series contains a duet called the Nightborn Duet, which is the first two installments and follows the story of Raihn and Oraya. This duet was described as being perfect for fans of From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout and A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas, and I can see the comparison for both. As we got rivals to lovers, deadly competition, action packed, and vampires with wings. I was debated on separating my review of The Serpent and the Wings of Night from The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King, but decided to combine the two.…
View PostLooking Back at the Books I Read in April 2023

I started this month feeling in a book slump since I didn't want to pick up any new books. Then, around halfway through the month, I started devouring books again. Though even with that being said, I still feel like I didn't read a lot this month (compared to others) even when you factor in my re-reads. As one of the new books was only half a book and the re-reads I skipped a lot to get to the dialogue or juicy bits. Sometimes I really don't like being a mood reader. If it doesn't vibe with the moment, I cannot make myself read a book regardless of how good it might be. And I know I have a lot of books that I could read. But every time I go to read them, my brain just says "nope, not today." So, with that being said here's a summary of everything I did manage to read during the month of April and my thoughts regarding those books.…
View PostReview of Bloodmarked (The Legendborn Cycle, Book 2) by Tracy Deonn

I had every intention of reading Bloodmarked by Tracy Deonn when it was released, but the mood didn't strike. And I kept debating rereading the first book in this series, Legendborn. But in the end, I changed my mind because I knew what had happened in the previous book. And, while I recall comparing it to Shadowhunters, I had forgotten how similar the two series are. But a major piece that this series focuses on outside of fighting demons is racism, grief, and trauma from generations past. Bree has to deal with everything that happened with her ancestors while struggling to deal with the racism within the Legendborn community and the lengths they will go to cover up the truth.…
View PostLooking Back at the Books I Read in March 2023

This past month started with a reading slump. I couldn't concentrate on reading. Every time I tried, I got maybe one chapter in before getting bored or completely unfocused. Not to mention, I spent a lot of time writing and playing video games. With that being said, I did manage to read some books. Though not as many as I usually do. And most of those were read in the second half of March.…
View PostMy Thoughts on the Vicious Lost Boys Series by Nikki St. Crowe

The Vicious Lost Boys by Nikki St. Crowe is a dark reimaging of Peter Pan and Wendy. This series has four books in total in the main series, though there is going to be a spin-off book in the future. This review is going to focus solely on the main series. These books are fairly short reads, so you can easily read each of them in one sitting. They do have an enemy-to-lover and reverse harem vibe to them, as well as darker undertones. If those aren't your vibe, then this series isn't for you. …
View PostLooking Back at the Books I Read in February 2023

Another month has passed and similar to last month, I'm going to be sharing everything that I read during the course of the month. This is broken down into sections: new books I've read, things I didn't finish, and things I re-read. I only count the new books towards my yearly reading goal, as that's how Goodreads handles the counts as it doesn't repeat the read time. But it's not entirely accurate, so I figured I would start sharing those as well in these round-ups.…
View PostMy Thoughts on On Twisting Tides (From Tormented Tides, Book 2) by Val E. Lane

On Twisting Tides takes place a few months after the events of From Tormented Tides. Milo is still adjusting to his second chance at life, while Katrina is trying to figure out what her great-grandmother wants. However, once she discovers that, the series of events that play out force them to go back to the 18th century in a race to save the world. Val E. Lane builds on her previous world to deliver this book that's perfect for fans of Pirates of the Caribbean, The Little Mermaid, Outlander, and Outer Banks. As it combines a mix of pirate adventure and romance with a modern-day urban fantasy setting.…
View PostLooking Back at the Books I Read in January 2023

I decided that in 2023, I'm going to do things a little differently here on my blog. Instead of doing a massive summary of everything that happened during the last month, I'm going to break it out into parts if there are multiple things to discuss. So, this one is going to be purely focused on everything that I read during January 2023. These are all the new books I read, not any that I decided to re-read along the way. If I did a review, I'll share the link to those. Otherwise, I will do a quick review of the book or series (with the series getting the mini-review at the end of all the books in the list). Mostly, those will just be a quick blurb about what the book/series was about.…
View PostMy Thoughts on The Stolen Heir (The Stolen Heir Duology, Book 1) by Holly Black

I enjoyed Holly Black's Folk of the Air trilogy, as well as other stories set in the Elfhame universe. So, when The Stolen Heir duology was announced, I was eager to see how things had progressed since Cardan and Jude were elevated to the position of High King and Queen. Granted, this story isn't about them, but about Suren (Wren) and Oak. Wren is a girl around Oak's age who was tortured and called the Queen of Teeth, despite the fact that it was clear in the previous series that she wasn't in control of what was going on around her at the time. Though the last time we saw her, Jude had freed her and given her command over Lady Nore. Although Oak is the rightful heir to the High Throne, Jude and Cardan have decided to wait until he is of age before handing over the crown.…
View PostMy Thoughts on A Cage of Crystal (Prophecy of the Forgotten Fae, Book 2) by Tessonja Odette

The second book in the Prophecy of the Forgotten Fae, called A Cage of Crystal, by Tessonja Odette is a rewritten version of Veil of Mist (Lela Trilogy). This was the first ever series by the author. While the book may be fully rewritten there are plot changes, name changes, and other modifications. I never got around to reading the original trilogy though it had been on my TBR before it was unpublished. So, I've gotten to read this story fresh.…
