Everything I Read in 2022

Everything I Read in 2022

It's been an entire year. I hope everyone had a good year. I thought I would wrap up the year by looking back at every single book I read in 2022. We'll see if 2023 is similar in terms of how many books I read.…

Books That at One Point Got Me into Reading

Books That at One Point Got Me into Reading

You would probably never guess based on how much I read today, but I grew up hating books. My parents struggled to get me to read anything. At one point they had to bribe me to read 100 books. They made a whole chart, and the majority of those were extremely short books meant to read your child to sleep. And I struggled with those. Any words that weren't simple, I didn't recognize, or couldn't pronounce/spell. So, I wanted nothing to do with reading. It wasn't until the seventh or eighth grade that I finally got into reading anything that wasn't assigned to me by school. And throughout the years there were lulls when I stopped reading for various reasons. So, I thought it would be fun to go through those books. …

Taylor Swift Midnights Book Tag

Taylor Swift Midnights Book Tag

It's been a hot minute since I did a book tag, and considering Taylor Swift just released a new album called Midnights, I knew several people were probably going to end up making book tags related to it. I really like this one from Star Is All Booked Up, so check out their blog to see the original. But these are the ones I came up with for each of the prompts based on the song titles.…

My Thoughts on the Love Triangle Book Trope

My Thoughts on the Love Triangle Book Trope

Oh, the love triangle trope. So many books include this in one way or another to add a dash of drama and conflict. Typically I find it to be done poorly, as you almost always know which individual a character is going to end up with. The other is just there, and either they are used to make the first individual appear to be the better option. Or leads to cheating occurring, which is a massive no for me. There are a few times where this trope was done, where I didn't mind it being included. So, I decided to look at how a few different book series approached this trope and what worked and didn't work for these series.…

New v. Old Book Covers: Which do I Prefer?

New v. Old Book Covers: Which do I Prefer?

Publishers often change up book covers either to bring in a new audience or encourage individuals to buy additional editions of their favorite series. Sometimes, I liked the new design over the old one. But usually, it's the other way around. So, I thought I would compare some of my favorite series where the covers were drastically changed over the years.…

Mid-Year Reading Wrap Up (2022)

Mid-Year Reading Wrap Up (2022)

The year is officially halfway over, so I thought it was time to look back at all the books I've read so far since the start of 2022. Several of these books I read multiple times during the course of the year, so the actual number of books is higher if you take that into consideration, but I didn't count how many times I re-read books, and some of them I only re-read certain sections, like returning to the romance only portion of some books and skipping the plot. It depends on the book and what I was in the mood for at the time. I also did not include any books that I read in previous years in this list, only the new ones.…

My Thoughts on House of Sky and Breath (Crescent City, Book 2) by Sarah J. Maas

My Thoughts on House of Sky and Breath (Crescent City, Book 2) by Sarah J. Maas

It's been two years since the previous Crescent City book was released by Sarah J. Maas. I will be avoiding sharing spoilers for the most part while discussing this book as there are mystery-solving elements to this book. Though unlike the first book in the series, the mystery was not the main focus. This one is more focused on the power-dynamic within Crescent City and going against the Asteri. Still, I'll be avoiding them for the most part in this review.…

Everything I Read in 2021

Everything I Read in 2021

It's been an entire year. I hope everyone had a good year. I thought I would wrap up the year by looking back at every single book I read in 2021. Honestly, I'm surprised by how many books I read. Not only that but I started reading new genres during the course of this year, though it still is related to fantasy/sci-fi (for the most part). We'll see if 2022 is similar in terms of how many books I read. I have a lot on my reading list still.…

Mid-Year Reading Wrap Up

Mid-Year Reading Wrap Up

I figured as we're halfway through the year, I would do a wrap-up of the things that I read. Especially as there were a lot of books that I managed to get through already. I don't know if I'll have quite the same amount read in the second half of the year, but you never know. When I get into a good book, I have a hard time putting it down.…

Trope I’m Tired of Seeing: Sacrificing Power

Trope I’m Tired of Seeing: Sacrificing Power

Sometimes I don't mind seeing particular tropes in books. Other times, I set the book off to the side and go: "Seriously? We're doing this again?" This is one of those tropes. I was debating on talking about multiple tropes, but honestly, I feel like this just needs a post of its own. What is that trope you might ask? The lead character losing all of their powers at the end of the book, especially if they were near god-like in the amount of power they had.…
