The Pop Culture Download #12: Clockwork Angel & Disney

For the past week I have not been feeling well, so I skipped on blogging to focus on getting better. Not that it actually helped much considering I was still on my computer technically writing and playing video games. I also have watched a lot of shows and read quite a bit, so let’s go over the new items that I’ve discovered or enjoyed this week.

Clockwork Angel

As part of that, I finished re-reading The Dark Artifices for a second time. Then decided to head over to the prequel series by Cassandra Clare called The Infernal Devices. This series focuses on characters introduced in the other two series: Tessa Gray, Will Herondale, and Jem Carstairs. I thought it was rather funny within the first page I immediately knew I was reading from a Herondale’s perspective. Maybe as I’ve read the other two series one too many times. But it got me hooked right away before it switched over to following Tessa Gray, who is another character I really enjoyed. She takes the place of Clary Fairchild in The Mortal Instruments, as Tessa has no idea about the Shadow World or that she is part of it. But instead of her being a Shadowhunter, she’s a warlock or rather part warlock as she’s also part Shadowhunter. Though this has not been revealed in the first book, I have no idea when it gets revealed or if she learns that after The Infernal Devices before the other two series take place. Though it is hinted at in the first book. We also get to meet Church, who instantly when they mentioned there was a cat I was like, ‘Oh my God, it’s Church! I was wondering when he would show up.’

I still have the other two books in this prequel series to read, but I’m really excited to get to them as Jem is such a standout character from The Mortal Instruments and The Dark Artifices. Plus, I need to get to why the Carstairs owe the Herondales. I know it’s cause Will saved Jem, and they were parabatai, but I need more details which I can’t wait to get to in this series. Also I’m really curious if Pandemonium Club that was in New York City where Clary met Jace, Izzy and Alec was named after the group from The Infernal Devices or they just share the name.

As I mentioned Will takes his descendants place (Jace) and Tessa takes Clary’s place, so it’s really obvious that the two end up together… I mean other than the fact going into the book from reading the other series. I mean, they go onto being married and having two kids together: James and Lucie. Though I am curious how she ends up engaged to Jem first considering she’s so into Will and he’s clearly into her. Granted he keeps pushing her away, which he ends up going to Magnus about. They haven’t gone into too many details on that yet but I have a feeling that comes about in the next book or perhaps the third. I know her relationship with Jem doesn’t work out due to him becoming a Silent Brother in the end and they don’t get married until between the events of The Mortal Instruments and The Dark Artifices.

Anyways… I’m onto the second book now, and will probably have that one and the last one finished by the end of next week, so I’ll go into those during that Pop Culture Download.

Disney Shows

You’re never too old for Disney. Or at least that’s what I like to believe. Since I don’t actually have cable, most of my television show consumption is things that were on previously through watching on Netflix, Amazon, or YouTube. The last week I have been watching episodes of the Disney shows Girl Meets World and Liv and Maddie.

Mostly Girl Meets World as I used to love Boy Meets World when I was growing up. It’s not the same as they tried to bring that classic show back to life for a modern generation. But I think the actors did a good job with the material. It reminds me a lot of what I loved about Boy Meets World. Riley is very similar to Cory with Topagna’s academics (mainly since she’s their daughter), Maya is very similar to Shawn (which I think it’s sweet that he ends up adopting her in the later season), and Farkle is well Minkus (who is Farkle’s father). But instead of Mr. Feeny, you have Cory Matthews filling in that role of helping the students learn life lessons. Plus, you have cameos of every other important character from the original show.
