Next in our series of “Easy Ways to Add a (BLANK) Touch to Your Home” I thought we would dive into the modern style since last week we focused on contemporary style last week. The modern style is all about clean, crisp lines with a simple color palette. Making use of metal, glass, and steel materials. Modern design employs a sense of simplicity in every element, including furniture. A word that’s commonly used to describe modern style is sleek, and there is not a lot of clutter or accessories involved with a modern style. Which gives it an almost minimalist appeal.
Keep it Simple
The first thing that needs to be kept in mind about the modern style, is keeping things simple. That doesn’t mean you have to have four blank walls and only a chair, it just means that everything has it’s place in your home so there’s no clutter. Modern homes go along the lines of several studies that state “cluteter leads to stress in your life” so modern homes keep the decor simple to help alleviate some of that stress.
Each Room Must Have a Function
Not only should your rooms be simple with those clean lines and minimal artwork and accessories, but it should also be functional. This varies greatly from room to room but when you go into a room, it should be easy to access and use various items in it. So, for instance, a kitchen that is designed with modern decor in mind should have ample workroom and everything should be easy to access.
Plenty of Tech
Technology is the third idea for a modern decor in your home. It is actually a lot more than simply stating “technology” and any electronics that are in your home should work with the space. It is often recommended that all electronics be streamlined, so flat panel televisions, built in DVD players, small flat screen televisions in the kitchen, and computers tied in to a room rather than being a lump in it, are important to keep those lines clean.
What is your favorite home style? Or how to do add a modern touch to your home?
