So for today’s post, I’ve been going back and forth on what I wanted to write about. I’ve been trying to keep everything very balanced between lifestyle and beauty. And since yesterday, I wrote about beauty that meant today would be lifestyle. But I didn’t really have anything I felt motivated to write about, as the only thing that would come to my mind was about everything that’s been happening in the news. There have been so many cases, stories, events… whatever you want to call it in the news about issues with policies/ethics. Now I’m not going to get into each story other than I’m referring to mainly the airline companies.
What is Ethics?
Before getting into the topic of ethics, I thought it was a good idea to define it:
- A set of moral principles that govern a person’s behavior or the conducting of an activity.
- A guiding philosophy
- A consciousness of moral importance
Everyone has their own version of ethics that are based upon something. Either from life experiences, religion, or upbringing that determine how they view certain topics on the scale of right to wrong. But no one has exactly the same ethics on every topic. For instance, pro-life vs pro-choice. These are polarizing/controversial topics because everyone views the subject differently. One person sees the act of abortion immoral, while the other does not or does not want to force their options/views onto someone else who is in that position.
But I feel like there are some things that are rather universal and yet somehow come up in the news all the time for one reason or another. These items being: do not hurt children or animals, and treat other human beings with respect regardless of their class, gender, sexual orientation, or race. I swear every other day, you see violations in ethics all the time. Sure a lot of people disagree on the second point because sexual orientation doesn’t line up with their religion, but that doesn’t change the fact that you shouldn’t be treating others like garage. How would you like it if someone did that to you? Sure disagree on things, but don’t treat others like trash. That’s common sense. Or at least it should be.
All of the new stories lately from airplane companies have been about the planes being overbooked and then them treating their customers who have already booked the plane like they are nothing. Sure United Airlines has adjusted their policies after the beat a guy up, but that doesn’t change the fact that they had terrible ethics leading up to those changes. And then there’s the family that made a YouTube channel where they encouraged their childhood to abuse each other. Both cases break the two common sense rules of ethics.
What are your thoughts on ethics? And what’s been happening around the world lately?
