Hey Howl Pack

It’s Mae Polzine! I started this blog back in 2015 to be a place where I could be creative and share things that I love. So, I post a variety of things. Similarly, I stream a variety of things (gaming, body paint, art, etc.) on Twitch┬áthree times a week, with some stream highlights and all VODs posted on my YouTube Channel.

Lastly, join our Discord to chat with other pack members. We have a great and supportive community over there. I love talking with everyone in Discord as it’s a great way to connect. Also, I offer Twitch emotes, sub badges, and moreover on my shop page as well as my own merch.

I Read All Released Books in Corsairs Series by Ruby Dixon

I hit a bit of a reading slump after reading A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer. I still have two books to read in that series, but I don’t know after reading 100 pages or so in the second book I set it aside and couldn’t bring myself to read more. Not that I wasn’t interested in the book. I just wasn’t in the right headspace for it. So, I thought what always helps with a reading slump? That’s right reading romance novels. And since I’ve read all the other major series by Ruby Dixon, I thought I would go over to the Corsairs. Which is a standalone and two series technically. Also, there’s a serial where the third book in one of the series is being posted a chapter a day. I am reading that, so I’ll touch on it in this post but it’s unfinished currently.

I Turned Myself into the Queen of Hearts

I let my Discord decided what makeup look I would do, and Queen of Hearts ended up winning. So, I decided to pull inspiration from a few different places for this look. Those being: Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and the playing card for the Queen of Hearts. I think you’ll find subtle nods to each version in the look. From the color palette to the lips to the roses painted red to the drawn appearance of the card. I really like how the look turned out… and of course, it gave me an excuse to put on a crown and my favorite blood-red wig.

Books I Got During the Barnes & Noble Book Haul

Barnes & Noble recently did their book haul where it was Buy One Get One 50% Off, and well after several months of not buying any books and working on reading through everything unread on my bookshelves (not that I finished) I got some books. So, I thought I’d share what I all got with you guys. Especially since I haven’t gotten around to reading in the last two weeks.

Squeeze of the Day (Citrus Fruit Inspired Makeup Look)

This week’s theme for Caturday is Fruit, so I went for a citrus fruit-inspired look. I used a look by @lenaaleew as a reference for this look. I absolutely love how this turned out with the lemons, limes, and oranges. I didn’t really have an outfit that went with the look, so I wanted to focus on the makeup and pulling in elements with the white and green.

Marvel’s Scarlet Witch Body Paint

I’ve been really enjoying doing body painting lately or at least doing it once a week. That way I don’t get burnt out. This week I turned myself into Marvel’s Scarlet Witch from Wandavision. I love Wanda, she’s one of my favorite characters in the MCU. I let my Discord decide who I turned myself into and I’m really glad they went with this character. The other choices were: Deadpool, Spiderman, Captain Marvel, and Iron Man. Plus, I haven’t seen anyone else recreate this version of Scarlet Witch in body paint. The original? Sure. But this one? Nope. Maybe I’m wrong but I didn’t see any on a quick search. I mostly was trying to get a sense of how anyone else would do the headpiece, but I couldn’t find one that didn’t use an actual headpiece, so I winged it. And I have to say I love how this look turned out.

My Thoughts on A Curse So Dark And Lonely (The Cursebreaker Series, Book 1) by Brigid Kemmerer

I love a retelling of a classic tale. Especially of Beauty and the Beast, so when I learned of A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer it found its way onto my bookshelves. Though it’s taken me a few months to getting around to reading it. As I have many books awaiting my attention. Plus, I was a bit nervous to read it. I kind of kept thinking “what if it’s like A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas” that was another retelling of this tale. Well, the two books are extremely different. And I’m glad about that. This one feels more like Beauty and the Beast without some other story (Hades and Persephone) being intertwined with it. While this one goes off in its own direction from the original tale, it still stays true in some regards to it, while still telling a compelling story of its own.
