Book Review: From These Dark Depths (Aisling Sea, Book 2) by Vanessa Rasanen

The second book in the Aisling Sea trilogy by Vanessa Rasanen is similar to the first book, From These Dark Depths in that it ends on a cliffhanger and features multiple POVs in the third person limited style. This series has been compared to Black Sails and Throne of Glass. While I haven't read Black Sails, I can see the Throne of Glass parallel. They are on the hunt for a magical dagger that will aid them in defeating a corrupt ruling body. Not to mention the presence of fae, sirens, and other mythical creatures.…
View PostBook Review: On These Black Sands (Aisling Sea, Book 1) by Vanessa Rasanen

Ever since reading From Tormented Tides by Val E. Lane, I've been into more sea-faring tales (pirates, Vikings, etc.) so I had put the Aisling Sea series by Vanessa Rasanen on my TBR. Originally, I wasn't going to read the series until it was completed, as both books in the trilogy end on a cliffhanger. But on my recent trip to Boston, I felt called to pick up the first book, On These Black Sands, as the sea was calling to me. Not to mention, this series features a morally grey hero, a found family, a slow-burn romance, and the one-bed trope. Not that I pick up books for tropes, but those are the ones I enjoy.…
View PostMy Thoughts on Married by Scandal by Tessonja Odette

I'm not usually someone who reads short stories. I like my books being at least 300 pages at minimum, due to the speed at which I read. However, when I learned that Tessonja Odette was releasing Married by Scandal I had to read it. One, it's set in a universe I know. Two, it's on a character that I wanted to see more of in that universe. Three, I love pretty much everything this author puts out. It's one of the reasons I'm extremely excited that I'm on the ARC list, so when Tessonja Odette releases new books I can read them right away.…
View PostRevisiting a Series I was Obsessed With: Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

I haven't read Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series in over a decade. I used to be completely obsessed with this series. I literally helped run a Twilight fan forum. And it's the origin of the moniker I use for almost everything. So, I decided to revisit this once-loved book series to see where my feelings on the series are now. I'm thinking of doing this with a few book series that I used to be obsessed with. But we must begin with the pinnacle obsession of my teenage years.…
View PostMy Thoughts on A Duel with the Vampire Lord (Married to Magic, Book 3) by Elise Kova

Elise Kova always writes good books. I have loved every other book in the Married to Magic series by this author, so when I found out she was releasing another one I was so excited about it. Especially when I heard it was a Beauty and the Beast, and a vampire book in the series. Sign me up! Those are two of my favorite things. Even if it's been done a lot, I always like to see new takes on it.…
View PostMy Thoughts on the Aspect and Anchor Series by Ruby Dixon

When I'm trying to get out of a reading slump, I usually end up reading something from Ruby Dixon. There was a series I hadn't checked out of hers so I added all the books immediately to my Kindle Unlimited without reading the synopsis of them beforehand. I figured I was getting into another light-hearted sci-fi book series that was maybe 400 pages at most and the majority being sex scenes. That's not what happened when I started reading Aspect and Anchor. For starters, I would not class these as science fiction, other than the fact they don't take place on earth (though one of the main characters in the first book came from there). Aspect and Anchor is more fantasy than science fiction (even though it's classed as such on Amazon). So, I thought I would give my overall thoughts on the series rather than talk about each book individually.…
View PostMy Thoughts on A Taste of Poison (Entangled with Fae, Book 4) by Tessonja Odette

Who doesn't love a good fairy tale/folklore retelling? Tessonja Odette is back at it again, this time with a Snow White retelling. But instead of seven dwarves and a magic mirror, there are a few twists to how these are incorporated into the world of Entangled with Fae. I did receive an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book, so it's not out quite yet. But I didn't want to hold off on sharing my thoughts on the latest standalone novel in this series.…
View PostMy Thoughts on From Tormented Tides (From Tormented Tides, Book 1) by Val E. Lane

I learned about this book through TikTok from the author and was super intrigued about it right away. And was lucky enough to get an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of From Tormented Tides by Val E. Lane. This book is a contemporary pirate fantasy with a slow-burn romance that starts out with a snippet of what's to come at the climax of the book. And I was hooked right away from the prologue. So, I'm going to be breaking down my thoughts on the book without giving too many spoilers.…
