I’ve tried personal shoppers before (mainly StitchFix) and generally didn’t find the experience for me. The pieces were way out of my usual price range and I only ended up keeping one or two pieces. Either because those were the only ones I could afford, or were the only ones that I actually liked. So, after seeing both Safiya Nygaard and LaurDIY both try Amazon Personal Shopper, I thought I would give it a go myself.
One thing I told myself at the start of the year is I would “age” up my wardrobe. Meaning I would actually start to dress to reflect my job. I’m a senior technical lead for a healthcare IT firm working in downtown Minneapolis. One thing I swear makes any look more professional looking is a good watch. Over the years I have tried to get watches, but ultimately always stopped wearing them typically due to my metal allergy. About two years ago, I was introduced to JORD Watches which are crafted with wood not metal for the main material of the band. I wanted to get one in the worst way but couldn’t justify the cost, so when they offered to do a collaboration I was beyond excited.
I love punk or grunge style outfits with a hint of nerd culture, though I rarely wear those types of outfits since it’s not really work appropriate. But when I was at Target the other day, I couldn’t help myself I just had to get this Jurassic Park tank top as it’s got tons of rips throughout the shirt. Which is very grunge and I love it! I paired this top with some ripped jean shorts, my favorite pair of black converse, and a black beanie. Also my hair finally matches my extensions from Irresistible Me and I’m over the moon about that so I put those on as well.
In our final installment of style on focus, we’re going to the tomboy style. Which is basically the style I lived in during most of my elementary and junior high school years. I did not want to dress girly in any way. Black clothing or pink clothing, baggy over fitted or “flow-y” with frills and laces. And I still love a lot of elements from this style, as I would rather get graphic t-shirts and sweatshirts from the men’s section of any department store as compared to the same items over in the women’s department.
Next style to discuss is that of the sophisticated style. This is the style for anyone who prefers everything to be the best quality possible. And if it needs a little extra attention to detail that makes it even better. They often look for styles that make a statement on the quality, polished manner and culture. Most of them are the ones who are from higher status and are also in a way related to how a businesswoman would dress up. Sophisticated can be characterized as businesswoman minus the formal look. Culture and luxury mean the most to the people who choose this style of fashion.
I seriously love astrology. When I was in the third grade, I dreamed about studying the stars and going into astrology. My dad gave me a lot of books and things to read about the stars, including going out into the country just to look at them and talk about the different constellations. And I’ve been wanting a top that embodied this once childhood dream. One day while I was taking a look on Etsy, I came across this racer back tank from Brain Candy Ink and just fell in love. It’s more of a zodiac chart but considering those are stars in the night sky I just couldn’t help but get this top. This specific top according to them is inspired by the Mayan New Year calendar and is handmade.
