The Pop Culture Download #3: Stranger Things, The Dark Artifices, and More

Happy Saturday everyone! Hope everyone's week was nice, I spent the week moving into my new apartment. I prepped this in advanced so there would be something to go up for you guys. I'll have another post going up tomorrow or the following day all about how everything went with the move and then we'll really have The Apartment Diaries series in full swing as I get things set up. View PostThe Umbrella Academy: Thoughts on Season One

Netflix released a new series back in February that I just got around to watching called The Umbrella Academy, which is an adaptation of the comic book series by the same name (created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá under Dark Horse Comics) developed by Steve Blackman and Jeremy Slater. It's an interesting premise as the story revolves around seven adopted siblings each with their own powers. The family is completely dysfunctional and brought back together by the death of their father and the threat of an impending apocalypse. I'm not going to go into the details of the plot as to not give any spoilers in case you haven't seen the series yet but were planning on doing so in the future.…
View PostComparing Sabrina the Teenage Witch to Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Netflix recently came out with The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina which is a dark version of the comics from Archie Comics. When I was growing up, I used to watch Sabrina the Teenage Witch. And I don't know why when I saw this on Netflix I didn't put the two together until I got a bit into the first episode. I kept thinking to myself, why does this seem so familiar. Then Salem got introduced and it finally clicked in my head. So I thought it would be fun to get into comparing the two adaptations of the shows. As they are both good in their own regards, but take the story of the Spellmans in very different directions.…
View PostStranger Things 2 Review

Season 2 of Stranger Things takes place a year after the events of the first season on the anniversary of Will's disappearance. The original season of Stranger Things had an amazing cast and storyline. So when they announced there was going to be a second season, I was worried that the mood, references, and retro vibe would be lost. Or it wouldn't live up to the first season. Especially considering how slow it took me to get into the show in the place. But once I got into it, the show was very addicting and I wanted to discover more about the characters and the creatures. So would season 2 live up to that? Or would it fall to the other concerns? Would they would repeat the same or similar timeline for the sake of nostalgia purposes like Star Wars did from Episode 5 to Episode 8? Or would it become bloated with celebration for itself and forget to tell the story? Similar to the Alien or Fast and Furious franchises.…
View PostWhat’s On My Binge Watch List for Netflix

I never watch TV when it's on, so there are a lot of shows that I need to watch as well as the ones that are from Netflix. I'm trying to get through all of them but I'm not sure if I can manage that before the next season of everything comes out. But honestly, I sort of love that at the same time because it gives me more to watch since the only way I watch shows is if I binge watch them.…
