My Favorite Video Games of the Past Decade (2010s)

Since the decade is coming to a close and I’ve played a lot of video games in the last ten years, I thought I’d go down my list of favorite games that came out in the last decade or that I heavily played during that time period. These are not in order, as I enjoy these all for different reasons.

Deltarune: What Happens if you Enter in Certain Names at the Beginning of Game

One of my favorite things to do in Undertale at the start of a new game was to input the names of the characters as each had a secret message or phrase afterwards. Most of which you weren’t allowed to continue moving forward with including: Sans, Papyrus, and Undyne. Each message came in the text pattern of the character you were trying to name your character after. If you chose Chara, you got the message “The True Name.” It was a fun little Easter egg. So in the new game from Toby Fox called Deltarune I thought I would give it a shot and see what happened.

Deltarune: Connections to Undertale

Toby Fox recently launched a new game called Deltarune, well more specifically just the first chapter of the game. Which is very, very similar in look and storytelling as Undertale. But from first and second playthrough of the game it is not directly connected together. As in one of is not a sequel or prequel of the other. Toby Fox even states they are different on his Twitter. However, there are still a lot of connections between the games so what are those?

Undertale: Secrets You May Have Missed

Undertale has to be one of my favorite games from the last year. The lore of the game is so interesting, the music is incredible and I listen to the soundtrack when I’m at work, and Toby Fox thought of literally every playing style and adjusted the game for that. When you first play the game there’s a bunch that you may miss, these are just the things that I missed the first few times I played the game and that I see others often missing when they play.

Undertale: Connections to Mother Series

Many people grew up playing the Mother series also known as Earthbound. I didn’t have gaming consoles growing up but have been introduced to this game mainly through Undertale do to their similarities. And this is mainly because Toby Fox the creator of Undertale started out as a forum member of and later released a fanmade spin off called Earthbound Halloween Hack. And in 2015 released his critically acclaimed RPG Undertale. And throughout the game you get little hints back to his roots in the Mother series.

Undertale: Pacifist vs Genocide Route

When you play Undertale, you have two choices on how to play the game. Well three if you consider the neutral route. But I’m not talking about that one as it basically just follows on of these two routes but you didn’t something you weren’t supposed to. The standard RPG style of killing all monsters which leads you down the genocide route or sparing all the monsters allowing you to play as a pacifist. The pacifist route is the encouraged route while you are playing the game based off your conversations with Toriel. And I do encourage that you play each route of the game as different parts of the lore are contained in each route.
