My Thoughts on A Dance with the Fae Prince (Married to Magic, Book 2) by Elise Kova
I loved A Deal with the Elf King which was the first book in this "series". Each book is technically standalone but they all happen in the same universe, roughly around the same time. A Dance with the Fae Prince was inspired by Psyche and Eros as well as Cinderella. While I didn't exactly see the Psyche and Eros theme while reading the book, you definitely get the Cinderella vibes. A girl whose father marries someone before dying an untimely death, only for the stepmother and sister to treat her like a servant before she is "rescued" by a prince. I love a retelling of a classic tale. Especially of Beauty and the Beast, so when I learned of A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer it found its way onto my bookshelves. Though it's taken me a few months to getting around to reading it. As I have many books awaiting my attention. Plus, I was a bit nervous to read it. I kind of kept thinking "what if it's like A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas" that was another retelling of this tale. Well, the two books are extremely different. And I'm glad about that. This one feels more like Beauty and the Beast without some other story (Hades and Persephone) being intertwined with it. Gods & Monsters by Shelby Mahurin is the third and final book in the Serpent & Dove series. To say this series pulled me in would be an understatement. It has Romeo & Juliet vibes but instead of opposing families, it's witches and witch hunters. Not to mention a lot of other elements like different covens, gods, Church, politics, and magical beings of all kinds.
