My Thoughts on A Dance with the Fae Prince (Married to Magic, Book 2) by Elise Kova

I loved A Deal with the Elf King which was the first book in this "series". Each book is technically standalone but they all happen in the same universe, roughly around the same time. A Dance with the Fae Prince was inspired by Psyche and Eros as well as Cinderella. While I didn't exactly see the Psyche and Eros theme while reading the book, you definitely get the Cinderella vibes. A girl whose father marries someone before dying an untimely death, only for the stepmother and sister to treat her like a servant before she is "rescued" by a prince. Only there's more to the tale than that.…
View PostBooks I Got During the Barnes & Noble Book Haul

Barnes & Noble recently did their book haul where it was Buy One Get One 50% Off, and well after several months of not buying any books and working on reading through everything unread on my bookshelves (not that I finished) I got some books. So, I thought I'd share what I all got with you guys. Especially since I haven't gotten around to reading in the last two weeks.…
View PostMy Thoughts on A Curse So Dark And Lonely (The Cursebreaker Series, Book 1) by Brigid Kemmerer

I love a retelling of a classic tale. Especially of Beauty and the Beast, so when I learned of A Curse So Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer it found its way onto my bookshelves. Though it's taken me a few months to getting around to reading it. As I have many books awaiting my attention. Plus, I was a bit nervous to read it. I kind of kept thinking "what if it's like A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas" that was another retelling of this tale. Well, the two books are extremely different. And I'm glad about that. This one feels more like Beauty and the Beast without some other story (Hades and Persephone) being intertwined with it. While this one goes off in its own direction from the original tale, it still stays true in some regards to it, while still telling a compelling story of its own.…
View PostReview of Gods & Monsters by Shelby Mahurin (Serpent & Dove Series, Book 3)

Gods & Monsters by Shelby Mahurin is the third and final book in the Serpent & Dove series. To say this series pulled me in would be an understatement. It has Romeo & Juliet vibes but instead of opposing families, it's witches and witch hunters. Not to mention a lot of other elements like different covens, gods, Church, politics, and magical beings of all kinds. The story has led up to this conclusion, and I was curious to see how it was going to play out. Especially with the way the second book ended. I'll be sharing spoilers of the ending of that book in this review as there's no way to discuss this book (spoiler-free to the ending) without discussing the previous book.…
View PostReview of Blood & Honey by Shelby Mahurin (Serpent & Dove Series, Book 2)

Blood & Honey by Shelby Mahurin is the second book in the Serpent & Dove series. I was curious how this series would go forward after the first book. Since a lot happened at the end of that book. I'll be sharing spoilers of the ending of that book in this review as there's no way to discuss this book (spoiler-free to the ending) without discussing the previous book.…
View PostReview of Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin (Serpent & Dove Series, Book 1)

k series that has been sitting on my shelves for a few months now, but I refused to pick it up until the entire trilogy was released. I got enough books in unfinished series, I didn't want to start another one. So, when I realized the last book was coming out this week I finally picked up the first one. And man, it was the first book good. I'll release the other two once I finish each of those books.…
View PostReview of Legendborn (The Legendborn Cycle, Book 1) by Tracy Deonn

Legendborn by Tracy Deonn was a book club book I was supposed to read back in December, and never got around to reading. Then I kept putting it off because I was afraid it wouldn't live up to the expectations for the book I had in my head after hearing a bunch of people saying how amazing it was. Especially after seeing it was similar in some regards to Shadowhunters. Which is one of my favorite universes. But I decided to finally give Legendborn a try after running a poll in a few places on what to read next. The vote was split between two books in the end, so the other one I'll read next. But first, Legendborn.…
View PostTrope I’m Tired of Seeing: Sacrificing Power

Sometimes I don't mind seeing particular tropes in books. Other times, I set the book off to the side and go: "Seriously? We're doing this again?" This is one of those tropes. I was debating on talking about multiple tropes, but honestly, I feel like this just needs a post of its own. What is that trope you might ask? The lead character losing all of their powers at the end of the book, especially if they were near god-like in the amount of power they had.…
