Books I Got For My Birthday that I’m Excited to Read

My 27th birthday was back on the 15th of May, and with the Stay-At-Home Order presents I got for myself, and ones that my friends in other states sent me were a bit delayed. So, I waited until they all arrived before making this post. Normally I don’t share this type of thing on my blog but I’m sort of at a point in my life where I’m not in the mood to review makeup anyone on a regular basis just if it’s something that it completely brand new (still love makeup, and will continue to post on my Instagram looks I’ve done), and I have basically only been playing Animal Crossing. So, I don’t really have anything to share from that… that I haven’t already shared on the blog. So, instead I’m focusing on books as I love reading. Have since I was fourteen or fifteen years old.

So, what did I all get for my birthday in terms of books?

For starters the entire A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas. The last book has yet to arrive, but should be here in a week or two according to the tracking information. My friend got me the first two books and I purchased the other two. The synopsis of the first book is:

When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a beast-like creature arrives to demand retribution for it. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she only knows about from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not an animal, but Tamlin–one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled their world.

As she dwells on his estate, her feelings for Tamlin transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie and warning she’s been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But an ancient, wicked shadow over the faerie lands is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it . . . or doom Tamlin–and his world–forever.

Next is the Snow Like Ashes series by Sara Raasch. This is a series I’ve been curious about since discovering the author on TikTok in her ‘Author & Character Conversation’ posts. I’ve been writing a book of my book and these posts were so true. Main characters become supporting or side characters, or suddenly remembering that you’ve forgotten how characters need certain things to survive like sleep or food while you’re in the middle of writing a journey with literally everything happening in order. The synposis of the first book is:

Sixteen years ago the Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. Now the Winterians’ only hope for freedom is the eight survivors who managed to escape, and who have been waiting for the opportunity to steal back Winter’s magic and rebuild the kingdom ever since.

Orphaned as an infant during Winter’s defeat, Meira has lived her whole life as a refugee. Training to be a warrior—and desperately in love with her best friend, Winter’s future king—she would do anything to help Winter rise to power again.

So when scouts discover the location of the ancient locket that can restore Winter’s magic, Meira decides to go after it herself—only to find herself thrust into a world of evil magic and dangerous politics—and ultimately comes to realize that her destiny is not, never has been, her own.

Lastly, this one I got myself. Crier’s War by Nina Varela. I saw another book blogger mention this a few weeks ago and got really curious about it. And then even more so when I went on Amazon and saw it described as the perfect fit for fans that loved Game of Thrones (currently working on that series. I’ll share my thoughts when I finish, maybe in a similar style to how I did The Mortal Instruments since I watched the show first) and Westworld. The synopsis of this book is:

After the War of Kinds ravaged the kingdom of Rabu, the Automae, designed to be the playthings of royals, usurped their owners’ estates and bent the human race to their will.

Now Ayla, a human servant rising in the ranks at the House of the Sovereign, dreams of avenging her family’s death…by killing the sovereign’s daughter, Lady Crier.

Crier was Made to be beautiful, flawless, and to carry on her father’s legacy. But that was before her betrothal to the enigmatic Scyre Kinok, before she discovered her father isn’t the benevolent king she once admired, and most importantly, before she met Ayla.

Now, with growing human unrest across the land, pressures from a foreign queen, and an evil new leader on the rise, Crier and Ayla find there may be only one path to love: war.

I’m really excited to read these books, I will get to these after I finish my O.W.L. readathon. I just finished re-reading all of the books that I had previously read so will be moving onto the new books next. I’m not sure if I’m going to do a review of all of them after I finish or what I’m going to, since I’ve never really done a straight up review of book that I’ve read before. I’ve only ever done comparisons of books to shows or movies, or mentioned them in book related posts.

Love ya,

Mae Polzine
