How Staying At Home Is Going Lately

I thought today I would just do a stream of thought blog post and just talk about what’s been going on in my life over the last month or so, since society has more or less completely moved to being stuck inside their houses. I live alone with my dog Pixie, so I don’t have a lot of social interaction. I’m an extreme introvert, so this doesn’t bother me a whole lot since I do talk on the phone every few days with my mom. Plus, I work from home so there’s daily meetings over video conferencing with my co-workers. So, it never really feels like I’m alone.

I’ve been having a bit of a writer’s block for my blog since the whole stay in place has happened. I’m not sure if it’s a combination of my mental state or something else. While I’ve had almost no ideas for what to blog about, I have had tons of writing creative juices to the point I decided to rewrite a book I already completed, and honestly this time I’m kind of more excited about the direction it’s going since it’s different than other stories I’ve read. Sure it’s influenced by them, but it’s its own thing now. Once I finish it, I’m actually going to submit this one to see if anyone would be interested in publishing it. That’s just how in love with it that I am. Which I can’t say about the dozens of other books that I’ve written in the past.

Other than working on my book, I’ve been playing a lot of Animal Crossing: New Horizons to the point where I have a 5-star island. Which looking at other people’s islands online, I don’t feel like my island is anywhere near that. But I’m not complaining, I love the game and I’m still working on improving things as new ideas come to mind. If you want to see my island, from April 11th I did film it.

If you would like to see an updated version, let me know.

I’ve also been watching various things on Netflix and DVDs that I have. As for DVDs, I’ve marathon the Harry Potter series and Lord of the Rings with my mom and sister. It was hilarious watching Lord of the Rings with my sister as she STRUGGLED. To a point, where I was half watching her because it was just so funny. I love the series but I know my sister was only humoring me by watching it. And I didn’t even do the Director’s Cut of the movies, since I didn’t want to subject her to the longer versions. As for Netflix, I watched Tiger King which was entertaining. But my god, not a single person is good. They are all should be behind bars for various reasons.

Outside of entertainment, I have rearranged my entire apartment multiple times. My most recent one involved moving my office space to where the dining area was, and now the dining area is basically in the same space as my living room. And I decluttered my entire makeup collection. I think I managed to get rid of 25-35% of my makeup, which is a lot. Granted, I can’t say made a real dent since I may or may not have ordered quite a bit of new stuff online. Yeah, broke my no buy but ‘it is what it is.’

On top of all that, I have been battling with my fire alarm. I can’t cook anything in my apartment that’s not microwave-able or else it will go off. I’ve told the maintenance crew at my apartment multiple times, yet it still is an issue. And now unless it’s an emergency, the maintenance crew will not come out to handle things. Plus, you have to be out of the apartment… considering I work at home and we can’t go out, yeah that’s not happening. Due to this, the fire alarm went off over heat from my oven while I was cooking chicken (nothing was burnt, no smoke, just some steam) and it caused me to jump. Yeah, ended up hitting my arm on the door of the oven and got 2nd degree burn. So, that’s lovely. Luckily, I know a bit of first aid so I didn’t need to go in but still. My war with the fire alarm is starting to drive me nuts. I can’t cook mac and cheese because of steam. There’s literally no way to avoid steam or heat when cooking.

Anyways, I think that’s about it of everything that’s happened in my apartment since the Stay-At-Home Order went into effect. How’s your time at home going?

Love ya,

Mae Polzine

I like this idea for a post! We get to see into a little more of your daily life. I love the Lord of the Rings but I get that it’s not for everyone. As for me, my life hasn’t changed much. I’m an essential worker so I still work everyday and I usually stayed home on the weekends anyway.

Thanks, yeah sometimes it’s nice to share what’s happening behind the screen. I would be an essential worker too, had my work not moved the IT department home a month before everything went down. If they hadn’t, I’d be in the office every day since we support hospitals with their electronic systems. And there’s no way we’re going to shut down with what’s going on.

My routine has changed a lot since lockdown. I’m at home pretty much all the time, except for when I go shopping for myself, parents and my gran. Otherwise I’m mostly just at home reading, listening to music, or watching TV.

Yeah, I need to read more. Now is the perfect time, I even have new books I’m excited about but haven’t touched them yet.

It is about a group of students (all of supernatural origins) during an independent mission (that’s sort of like a final exam) when things go very astray and they learn things that happened in their past may be coming back to hunt them.

Great post! I’m just finishing a rewatch of all of the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World films with my boyfriend. I think I’m going to sort out some drawers and my wardrobe tomorrow to try and give me some more storage space!

Nice! I have never seen those, might have to add that to my watch list since it’s a classic.

My time at home has been super productive. I’m actually enjoying it and getting done with a lot of stuff I always said “If I had time….” I tried watching Tiger King but I couldn’t get past like 15 mins so I’m not going to even try. I stopped watching when they were shooting the mannequin.
I don’t know how I’d cook without the stove and oven but my roommate uses the microwave to cook almost exclusively 🙁 I’m guessing you’ve tried windows and fans.

Yeah, Tiger King is more just sitting there and wondering “How is this honestly people’s real lives? How are they from the same planet I am?”

Right now I’m stuck with microwave, which I hate. Yes tired fans and windows, sometimes it works but most of the time it doesn’t.

Awww, I’m sorry your fire alarm is playing up, it’s such a pain when the one in our building goes off for no reason whatsoever and we all have to haul butt downstairs and still be social distancing aha! I’m glad you have a lot of inspiration for writing and Animal Corssing, I’d love to hear more about your book!! Take care sweetie, loved this post xx

Luckily, mine will quit if I hit the button so the building doesn’t have to do that. But still it would be nice not to have to deal with it.

Pixie is such a cute name for a dog, I love it! I haven’t seen any Tiger King yet (because I’ve heard from TONS of people how morally wrong everyone is lol) but since HULU opened up more of its shows/movies to non-premium members for the outbreak, my boyfriend and I have been watching Silicon Valley. It’s hilarious! Also congrats on starting that rewrite of your book!!

Yeah, no one in that show has any morals. It’s so crazy. I might need to check out HULU again, I stopped using it because I didn’t want to pay for yet another streaming service.

How good to have an insight from your life during these difficult times. My life hasn’t had a big change but still there’s many things I wish could be like they were before all of this happened.
