The Read-Cap: Week of February 10, 2024

The better part of the week was spent reading House of Flame and Shadow, the third book in the Crescent City series, by Sarah J. Maas and then I just really wanted ‘lighter’ books before I jumped back into finishing the Foul Lady Fortune duology by Chloe Gong. If you are new to the Read-Cap this a weekly post I’m doing where I share what I’ve been reading in the last week and what I plan on reading next. If I finish a book and decide not to do a full post reviewing the book then I’ll just share my general thoughts in one paragraph here.

Before I get into everything that I’ve read and planning on reading, if there are any books available on Kindle Unlimited at the time of posting this, I will mark those books with a ♥ next to the title. So, if you have a subscription you know what’s available to read on there.

What Did I Read This Week?

  • House of Flame and Shadow (Crescent City, Book 3) by Sarah J. Maas
    • Check out my review using the link above to see my thoughts on this book but I would highly recommend this book. I thought it was a great end to Bryce and Hunt’s story though it opened the door for other books to take place in this world as well as other characters still had things left unresolved.
  • The Enforcer (Lakeside University, Book 1) by Avery Keelan ♥
    • I needed a shorter, lighter book after reading House of Flame and Shadow so I decided to give The Enforcer a try. I know there are more books in the series, but looks like they were taken down and are being redone with new artwork on the covers. This is a second chance romance, where Nash drove Violet away due to fears of not measuring up and pressure from his father. Then they spent two years pining and avoiding each other until they are forced to see each other again when she’s assigned as his physical trainer. It takes them a while to return to a point where they are back in a relationship with each other and even more for Nash to fully open up and admit what drove all his actions. Which was the result of an abusive father, who was constantly pressuring him that he wasn’t good enough in any area of his life to the point where he believed it about everything. And would ignore injuries (torn AC in his shoulder, knee, concussion, etc.) to please his father. Overall, I would recommend this book.

What I’m Planning on Reading Next?

This is what I’m currently planning on reading in the next week or the list I’m immediately looking at for next week but likely will not get to all of these books:

  • Foul Heart Huntsman (Foul Lady Fortune, Book 2) by Chloe Gong
  • Viciously Yours (Fae Kings of Eden, Book 1) by Jamie Applegate Hunter ♥
  • Sticks and Stones (Shadow Valley U, Book 1) by S. Massery and S.J. Sylvis ♥

Of course, this is subject to change since I generally read based on mood. But right now, this is what I’m planning on reading. However, I might pull something off my ‘Reading Docket’ instead.

What’s on the docket:

The Book of Azrael
Foul Lady Fortune
The Priory of the Orange Tree
King of Scars
The Raven Boys
Cities of Smoke and Starlight
Lightlark
Belladonna
The Hurricane Wars
The Scarlet Veil

This a library on my GoodReads that I try to keep updated as I purchase books and download things on Kindle Unlimited. If a book is part of a series, only the next book I have not read is included in this list. So, that way it doesn’t look overwhelming to me. But you can add all released books alongside the one mentioned here, as I will be reading those immediately afterwards in most cases. This is not the entire list, so if you would like to see the entire list, check out my reading docket.

Love ya,
