The Read-Cap: Week of April 20, 2024

This week I didn’t want to read anything that required a lot of thinking, so books that I knew were going to be easy enough to breeze through. So, I ended up reading a series on Kindle Unlimited that I figured wouldn’t be too complex based on the premise and a book that I knew was just going to be vibe from Ruby Dixon. If you are new to the Read-Cap this a weekly post I’m doing where I share what I’ve been reading in the last week and what I plan on reading next. If I finish a book and decide not to do a full post reviewing the book then I’ll just share my general thoughts in one paragraph here.

Before I get into everything that I’ve read and planning on reading, if there are any books available on Kindle Unlimited at the time of posting this, I will mark those books with a ♥ next to the title. So, if you have a subscription you know what’s available to read on there.

What Did I Read This Week?

  • Tethered (The Binding Chronicles, Book 1) by Elayna R. Gallea ♥
  • Tormented (The Binding Chronicles, Book 2) by Elayna R. Gallea ♥
  • Treasured (The Binding Chronicles, Book 3) by Elayna R. Gallea ♥
    • I have conflicting thoughts about this series. There were a few things that irritated me, such as the two main characters stating “We need to talk about this later.” and then spending chapters reiterating that before they do. Not to mention many things that were told rather than shown, as well as decisions that made no sense. This is made worse by the fact that Luna, the female main character, is meant to be extremely intelligent, but her reactions and decisions never reflect this. If you like vampire romance and don’t mind similar phrases being repeated a lot, poor communication, and terrible decisions than I would recommend this book. Though there were many moments that made it lend more towards wasn’t for me as it was like hitting my head on a wall but ultimately I still enjoyed my time reading this series.
  • Only the Cloney (Sunrise Cantina, Book 1) by Ruby Dixon ♥
    • I fully planned on reading this sooner but got sucked into a vampire trilogy (pun not intended but it works). I’ll likely finish it today so I’m just going to give my quick thoughts on it now, it’s a novella following two characters (Kazex and Ruthie) who we met in previous books in this universe from Ruby Dixon. A lot of it focuses on Ruthie coming to terms with the fact that she’s a twin and Kazex just loves her. It’s a cute, quick read that I would recommend if you enjoy this universe from Ruby Dixon.

What I’m Planning on Reading Next?

This is what I’m currently planning on reading in the next week. Which is a lot and I know I won’t get to it all but the plan is at least to start here.

  1. A Rivalry of Hearts (Fae Flings and Corset Strings, Book 1) by Tessonja Odette
    • This book isn’t out until June but I received my ARC, and I’m planning on starting it next week. I’m looking forward to this as it’s supposed to be a Rom-Com set in the same universe as Tessonja Odette’s The Fair Isle Trilogy and Entangled with Fae series. The last Entangled with Fae gave us a preview of this and I was looking forward to reading it after that teaser. Plus one of the main characters is the author we were introduced to in the Entangled with Fae series, so yeah I can’t wait to start this book.
  2. Long Live (The Elementals of Iona, Book 1) by V.B. Lacey ♥
    • I was waiting for this duology to be fully released before starting it, and next week the second and final book comes out. So, if I finish the other two books on the list then I’m going to start this duology.
  3. Puck Block (Bexley U, Book 3) by SJ Sylvis ♥
    • I don’t know when I’m getting to this book but I plan to read it sometime soon. It comes out next week and I enjoyed the previous two books in this series.

Of course, this is subject to change since I generally read based on mood. But right now, this is what I’m planning on reading. However, I might pull something off my ‘Reading Docket’ instead.

What’s on the docket:

The Book of Azrael
Foul Lady Fortune
The Priory of the Orange Tree
King of Scars
The Raven Boys
Cities of Smoke and Starlight
Lightlark
Belladonna
The Hurricane Wars
The Scarlet Veil

This a library on my GoodReads that I try to keep updated as I purchase books and download things on Kindle Unlimited. If a book is part of a series, only the next book I have not read is included in this list. So, that way it doesn’t look overwhelming to me. But you can add all released books alongside the one mentioned here, as I will be reading those immediately afterwards in most cases. This is not the entire list, so if you would like to see the entire list, check out my reading docket.

Love ya,
