Today’s tandem reading guide is for Empire of Storm and Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas. On my initial reading of this series, I read the books separately. I have read the entire series multiple times over since then, and many times I have done a tandem read between these two books. I found it helpful as it shows a lot of light on some of the things that happen between the books and keeps the timeline straight in my head on what happened when. If you’re not a massive fan of Chaol by the end of Queen of Shadows, this can help get you through the book that does not include Aelin. Because there are a lot of great characters that come out of Tower of Dawn that you wouldn’t have a lot of background on if you just skipped to Kingdom of Ash, not to mention a bunch of details regarding Maeve that were learned in Tower of Dawn.

How did you end up reading these books the first time around? Together or apart? Also, what books would you like a reading guide for next?

Could you please fix the errors in this? Some missing chapters and out of order numbers! Thank you 🥰- first time series reader attempting to tandem read!

I fixed it, sorry about that. I think I mixed up Tower of Dawn and Empire of Storm at one point while listing out the chapters. But it should be good now. Thank you for bringing that to my attention!

Hey, I’m reading throne of glass for the first time and wondering if you would recommend the tandem read for the first time round? Is it worth the effort of switching back and forth? Does it get confusing with the storylines or is it just like the previous books where she switches perspectives? Also does it elevate the story, just want to know if its worth it cause I hear EOS ends on a cliffhanger which I am makes me want to do the tandem so I can go straight into Kingdom of Ash after? Also does it undermine the story? like make u not appreciate it or anything.
Sorry so many questions! I’m just really indecisive and REALLY invested in this series

I think it’s worth it, especially with the cliffhanger. The perspectives do switch in both books. So you would just be following the events taking place in two different places. But they do happen at the same time and there is a cause/effect between one book and the other. I initially didn’t read it as a tandem so the entire time I had that cliffhanger over my head which made reading Tower of Dawn slightly hard. Especially since I was going to be reading one character (out of many in that book) I wasn’t a fan of at the time. When I did the tandem read, I found it easier/better.
Hope that helps!
